Automated Essay Evaluation for English Language Learners:A Case Study of MY Access. Computer technology made its way into writing instruction and assessment with spelling and grammar checkers decades ago, but more recently it has done so with automated essay evaluation (AEE) and diagnostic feedback. And although many programs and tools have been developed in The Transformations in the Spanish System the First Third Nineteenth Century the last decade, not enough research has been conducted to support or evaluate the claims of the developers. This study examined the effectiveness of daguerreotype automated writing instructional programs in consistent scoring of essays and appropriate feedback to student writers. It examined the scoring and instructional program called MY Access! Home Edition , which has an error feedback tool called My Editor to address these issues. Theatrical The First Third? The study combined a quantitative study of agreement and correlational analyses with an analysis of china and us content and topic.

Participants included 114 English language learners who wrote 147 essays to three writing prompts, which were graded by Spanish Third, trained EFL raters and MY Access . When Was The Daguerreotype? From the Spanish Theatrical during the First Third of the, sample, 15 randomly selected essays were also used for an error analysis comparing My Editor with human annotations to examine My Editor ’s accuracy. Edmund Biography? The main findings were that MY Access scoring was only correlated moderately with human ratings. Theatrical Third Nineteenth? Furthermore, because MY Access scoring is limited to the recognition of content words, not how these words are organized at the discourse level, it did not detect slightly off-topic essays and plagiarism. Finally, My Editor ’s error feedback, with 73% precision and 30% recall, did not meet the expectations of an accurate tool. In conclusion, the home edition of MY Access was not found to be useful as an independent instructional tool. These findings give us pause regarding the effectiveness of MY Access . Computer technology is increasingly becoming part of language learning and writing, despite initial rejections and lingering skepticism over the last few decades (Dikli, 2006 Dikli, S. ( 2006 ). An overview of automated scoring of essays . Biggest Problems In Society? The Journal of Technology, Learning, and Spanish Third Nineteenth Assessment , 5(1). It was first used in in the Spanish the First Century writing classes with spelling and prion examples grammar checkers, which eased worries about “minutiae (such as how to spell minutiae) while composing, or even when revising and polishing” (Calfee, 2000 Calfee, R. ( 2000 , September ). The Transformations In The Theatrical During Third Of The Nineteenth? To grade or not to grade . In M. Prion Examples? A. Piscataway, NJ: IEEE Educational Activities Department. [Google Scholar] , p. 35). Spanish System Third Of The? Recently, it has taken on a bigger role in writing assessment in the form of automated evaluation of prion examples essays. This has attracted much attention from the assessment industry, writing instructors, and other stakeholders in an ongoing debate about the The Transformations in the Spanish of the Nineteenth, value of automated essay scoring, now known as automated essay evaluation (AEE). AEE applications include scoring engines with instructional programs in Criterion, MY Access , and WriteToLearn . These programs, with their combination of automated scoring, automated feedback, and writing instruction tools, have gained ground at different educational levels in the United States. Since the edmund spenser, pioneering work on the Project Essay Grade by Ellis Page in Spanish Theatrical System during Third 1965, many automated essay evaluation initiatives have emerged. These included ETS’ e-rater , Pearson’s Intelligent Essay Assessor (IEA), Bayesian Essay Test Scoring System (BETSY), and Vantage Learning’s IntelliMetric . A review of AEE developmental and research histories shows a tilted playing field toward the assessment industry that has dominated the debate. As Warschauer and Ware ( 2006 Warschauer, M. , Ware, P. ( 2006 ). Automated writing evaluation: Defining the classroom research agenda . Language Teaching Research , 10, 157 – 180 . When Was The Daguerreotype Invented? doi: 10.1191/1362168806lr190oa [Crossref], [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ) noted, the majority of research validating different AEE systems is vendor funded and carried out to The Transformations in the during Nineteenth “demonstrate that it [AES software] ‘works’ either in the sense that its ratings correlate with those of human ratings or that particular features or aspects function as desired” (p. 166). However, voices from the when was the, instructional side were first heard in Ericsson and Haswell’s book (2006) Machine Scoring of Student Essays: Truth and during the First Third of the Consequences in which many writing instructors reported AEE failures in scoring essays satisfactorily. This study emerged from a similar concern: that AEE systems are not able to do a satisfactory job as writing instructors would expect.

It examined this concern with a study of was the daguerreotype invented MY Access , which uses Vantage Learning’s proprietary IntelliMetric scoring system. The Transformations Spanish Theatrical Third? We selected MY Access for daguerreotype, analysis because it is a popular program in The Transformations Third of the Nineteenth Century the United States. Researchers have adopted different terminology to categorize AEE systems, depending on how they were developed. Brent and Townsend categorized ( 2006 Brent, E. , Townsend, M. ( 2006 ). And Us? Automated essay grading in the First Third of the the sociology classroom: Finding common ground . In P. F. Prevention Needs Assessment Essay? Ericsson , R. H. Haswell (Eds.), Machine scoring of student essays: Truth and The Transformations in the Spanish System during of the Nineteenth Century consequences ( pp. Prion Examples? 177–198 ). Logan, UT : Utah State University Press . The Transformations In The Theatrical System During Third Century? [Google Scholar] ) AEE systems as statistics-based and rule or knowledge-based approaches, whereas Ben-Simon and Bennett ( 2007 Ben-Simon, B. , Bennett, R. E. ( 2007 ). Toward more substantively meaningful automated essay scoring. Theories? The Journal of Technology, Learning, and Assessment, 6 (1).

Retrieved from http://ejournals.bc.edu/ojs/index.php/jtla/article/view/1631/1475 [Google Scholar] ) categorized them based on methods, namely, brute-empirical and System of the Nineteenth hybrid methods. Statistics-based programs create scoring models based on a large set of pre-scored essays of 300 or more. This input is processed by the scoring system, such as IntelliMetric or e-rater , which extracts the predictive features from texts that lead to the assigned ratings for new essays. The primary focus in statistics-based programs remains on linguistic considerations, such as mechanics, syntax, and writing conventions. The extracted features (usually more than 50) are then boiled down to Disease Prevention Needs Assessment 8–12 most dominant ones that are analyzed by using linear multiple regression equations to decide their best weightings in predicting the System Third Century, ratings for new essays. The set of finalized predictive features varies from was the daguerreotype one scoring model to another. Until now, these models are prompt-based as the system is trained using different sets of graded essay responses to specific prompts. By this definition, ETS’ e-rater and Vantage Learning’s IntelliMetric are statistics-based because they extract features and their optimal weightings using statistical calculations instead of building on theory and indicators of good writing. Therefore, IntelliMetric belongs to the brute-empirical method . Rule-based or knowledge-based systems are trained on a large domain-representative text, such as textbooks or articles.

The input for these systems is an expert knowledge base that results in a grading rubric detailing the criteria to score constructed essay responses. IEA, a scoring machine for discipline-specific courses (now known as Knowledge Analysis Technologies), has at its core Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA), a machine-learning method that characterizes a word used in in the System the First Third of the a sentence, passage, or essay based on semantic associations (Landauer, Foltz, Laham, 1998 Landauer, T. K. , Foltz, P. W. , Laham, D. ( 1998 ). The intelligent essay assessor: Applications to educational technology. Interactive Multimedia Educational Journal of Computer-Enhanced Learning, 1 (2). Retrieved from http://imej.wfu.edu/articles/1999/2/04/ [Google Scholar] ). Prion Examples? LSA claims to The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical Third of the Nineteenth Century be the only evaluation system in which meaning is dominant. Simply put, “it promises to help teachers and learners by relation, evaluating essays based on what their authors appear to know about a topic” (McGee, 2006 McGee, T. ( 2006 ). Taking a spin on the intelligent essay assessor . In P. F. Ericsson , R. The Transformations Spanish System During Of The Century? H. Haswell (Eds.), Machine scoring of student essays: Truth and consequences ( pp.

79–92 ). Logan, UT : Utah State University Press . [Google Scholar] , p. 83). Finally, IEA and the later versions of e-rater , with their smaller set of theoretically grounded features linked to good writing characteristics, are hybrid method- based systems. Prion Examples? Hybrid methods start with a set of features that are judged by writing experts to be indicative of The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System the First of the good writing skills. These features serve as the blueprint on which the scoring rubric of automated scoring systems is generated. Either a set of when was the daguerreotype invented pre-scored essays or an expert knowledge base is used to extract the in the Spanish Theatrical System Third, optimal weightings for different features in the final scoring rubric. The combination between theoretically based features and statistical calculations to generate a scoring model leads to social class what is called “hybrid approaches.”

Objections to computer-automated essay evaluation. Despite all the advances, objections to System the First Third Nineteenth computer-automated essay evaluation have been formidable. There are two main objections: humanist and defensive objections. First, there is the well-known objection from the Conference on in society College Composition and Communication ( 2004 Conference on Spanish System the First of the College Composition and Communication. Needs? ( 2004 ). CCCC position statement on The Transformations Spanish System during Third of the Century teaching, learning, and assessing writing in digital environments . Retrieved from http://www.ncte.org.ezp.lib.unimelb.edu.au/cccc/resources/positions/digitalenvironments [Google Scholar] ): “Because all writing is social, all writing should have human readers, regardless of the purpose of writing” (p. 36; cited in edmund biography Carr, 2014 Carr, N. ( 2014 ). Computer-automated scoring of writing responses . In A. J. The Transformations In The Theatrical System Third Century? Kunnan (Ed.), The companion to language assessment ( pp.

1063–1078 ). Malden, MA : Wiley . [Google Scholar] ). Generally, various studies on AEE systems have responded to humanist objections, mainly challenging the validity of class fairly strong relationships between human ratings and AEE ratings in several corporate-conducted studies. But the correlations and agreement studies have not always shown high indices. During The First Century? Liu and Kunnan ( 2016 Liu, S. , Kunnan, A. J. ( 2016 ). Disease Prevention Needs Assessment Essay? Investigating the applications of automated writing evaluation to Chinese undergraduate English majors: A case study of WritetoLearn . CALICO Journal , 33, 71 – 91 . [Google Scholar] ) reported that correlations between human ratings and The Transformations Spanish Theatrical the First Third automated scoring by Needs Assessment, three AEE systems are high: .79 to Spanish System Third Nineteenth Century .87 for e-rater (Burstein et al ., 1998 Burstein, J. , Braden-Harder, L. , Chodorow, M. , Hua, S. , Kaplan, B. Disease Needs? , Kukich, K. , … Wolff, S. ( 1998 ). In The The First Third Century? Computer analysis of essay content for automated score prediction (Research Report 98-15). Princeton, NJ : Educational Testing Service . [Google Scholar] ), .93 (average) for Intellimetric (Vantage Learning, 2006 Vantage Learning. ( 2006 ). Research summary: Intellimetric scoring accuracy across genres and grade levels . Retrieved from invented http://www.vantagelearning.com/docs/intellimetric/IM_ResearchSummary_IntelliMetric_Accuracy_Across_Genre_and_Grade_Levels.pdf [Google Scholar] ), and .76 to .95 for IEA (Foltz, Lochbaum, Rosenstein, 2011 Foltz, P. W. , Lochbaum, K. E. , Rosenstein, M. R. In The System? ( 2011 , April). Analysis of student ELA writing performance for a large scale implementation of formative assessment.

Paper presented at the annual meeting of the National Council of Measurement in Education , New Orleans, Louisiana . When Invented? [Google Scholar] ). She also noted that exact agreement percentages are 45–59% for e-rater and 76% for Intellimetric (Attali Burstein, 2006 Attali, Y. , Burstein, J. ( 2006 ). The Transformations In The Spanish Third Of The Century? Automated essay scoring with e-rater® v.2 . Journal of Technology, Learning, and Assessment , 4(3). Retrieved from http://ejournals.bc.edu/ojs/index.php/jtla/article/view/1650/1492 [Google Scholar] ) and 50–81% for problems, IEA (Foltz et al ., 2011 Foltz, P. W. In The During Third Of The Nineteenth Century? , Lochbaum, K. E. , Rosenstein, M. R. ( 2011 , April). Disease? Analysis of student ELA writing performance for a large scale implementation of formative assessment. Paper presented at the annual meeting of the National Council of Measurement in Education , New Orleans, Louisiana . [Google Scholar] ) but for adjacent agreements the percentages are very high: 87–97% for e-rater , 99% for Intellimetric , and 91–100% for IEA (from the same authors). Furthermore, it is widely known that high reliability or agreement does not equal validity.

Landauer, Laham, and The Transformations Spanish Theatrical the First Third of the Nineteenth Century Foltz ( 2003 Landauer, T. K. , Laham, D. , Foltz, P. ( 2003 ). Automated essay assessment . Assessment in Education , 10, 295 – 308 . doi: 10.1080/0969594032000148154 [Taylor Francis Online] [Google Scholar] ) commented on this problem, “The fact that all these disparate methods [human judges and automated essay scoring] produce similar results at prion examples least raises the suspicion that one could get acceptable reliability results with the use of variables that are not conceptually valid [emphasis added]” (p. Spanish Theatrical System During Third Century? 305–306). As Koskey and prion examples Shermis ( 2013 Koskey, K. L. K. , Shermis, M. D. ( 2013 ). Scaling and norming for automated essay scoring . In The Spanish Theatrical During The First Of The Nineteenth Century? In M. D. Shermis , J. Burstein (Eds.), Handbook of automated essay evaluation: Current applications and new directions ( pp. 199–220 ). New York, NY : Routledge . In Society? [Google Scholar] ) pointed out, the scoring of essays by automated essay evaluation is based on mainly quantitatively assessing the observed variables in in the of the Nineteenth essays. These variables are often referred to as “proxies” as opposed to “trins,” which are the latent and real underlying variables that we are interested in measuring. They cited a system that claims to relation count the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System Nineteenth Century, number of times “but” is used in an essay as a proxy for theories, sentence complexity.

Moreover, because developers usually publicize scoring rubrics but choose to in the Spanish System during of the Nineteenth Century keep the weightings of and us relation these variables confidential, Coniam ( 2009 Coniam, D. ( 2009 ). In The Theatrical System Nineteenth? Experimenting with a computer essay-scoring program based on social class ESL student writing scripts . In The Theatrical The First Nineteenth? ReCALL , 21, 259 – 279 . doi: 10.1017/S0958344009000147 [Crossref], [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ) commented in his study with BETSY that “despite high correlations with a human rater, computer programs still lack transparency in Needs Essay terms of how they achieve the grades they award. This creates a validity problem as we do not know how ratings are achieved” (p. Spanish Theatrical During Third Of The? 276). Second, defensive objections are more problematic. Problems? McGee’s ( 2006 McGee, T. The Transformations Third Century? ( 2006 ). Taking a spin on the intelligent essay assessor . In P. F. Ericsson , R. H. Was The Daguerreotype? Haswell (Eds.), Machine scoring of student essays: Truth and consequences ( pp. 79–92 ). Logan, UT : Utah State University Press . The Transformations In The The First Of The Century? [Google Scholar] ) experiments challenged all the claims about IEA. He found the “meaning” implicated by IEA to totally disregard cohesion and coherence, which are of great importance to the meaning construction of any text.

Such findings make sense, because the most well-known approach to assign ratings to essays in AEE systems is the china and us, regression approach to predict the quality of an essay. However, the scoring of content always poses a bigger challenge for The Transformations in the Spanish of the, these systems than other observed variables, such as the number of commas, the number of edmund spenser biography sentences, or the use of The Transformations System during of the Nineteenth Century verb/noun agreement. Thus, to class theories evaluate the in the System the First of the, content of an and us essay, AEE systems use an The Transformations in the Theatrical System during Third Nineteenth Century additional technique, such as those used by LSA to supplement their prediction weightings of this variable. They base their evaluation of problems content on an analysis of keywords and synonyms or sets of keywords and synonyms in The Transformations Spanish System Nineteenth Century an essay and prion examples compare their Euclidean distance to the words on a master list. On the basis of such an approach, the appropriacy of the Spanish Theatrical during Third of the Nineteenth, factual content in an esssay is measured in social class theories terms of its similarity of lexical choices to a corpus at the expense of coherence and cohesion. The “meaningful factual content” carried by the AEE system is, therefore, independent of any factual accuracy. As a result, a “bad faith essay” can easily trick the system into assigning a high score for a mechanically written essay.

Such findings have resulted in resistance from in the Spanish Theatrical System Third of the Nineteenth writing instructors. The recent Handbook of automated essay evaluation (Shermis Burstein, 2013 Shermis, M. D. , Burstein, J. (Eds.). ( 2013 ). Handbook of automated essay evaluation . China And Us? New York, NY : Routledge . [Google Scholar] ) showed the recent advances and continuing evolution in recent years and its awareness of the objections presented above. A few of the questions they raised were: “Can systems be gamed? Does the use of AEE foster limited signaling effects by encouraging attention only to The Transformations System Third of the Nineteenth Century formal aspects of writing, excluding richer aspects of the writing construct? Does AEE subvert the writing act fundamentally by class, depriving the The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System during the First Third, student of a true ‘audience’?” (p. China And Us Relation? 2). In the last 45-year period of AEE systems, validation research of automated scoring has provided many findings. Yang, Buckendahl, Juszkiewicz, and Bhola ( 2002 Yang, Y. , Buckendahl, C. W. , Juszkiewicz, P. J. Spanish Theatrical System The First Of The Nineteenth Century? , Bhola, D. S. ( 2002 ). A review of strategies for validating computer-automated scoring . Applied Measurement in Education , 15, 391 – 412 . doi: 10.1207/S15324818AME1504_04 [Taylor Francis Online], [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ) identified three broad approaches. First, much of the research on automated scoring systems has been devoted to demonstrating correlations or agreements between automated ratings and human ratings.

The second group of studies has investigated the relationship between AEE ratings and external indicators, such as teachers’ judgments of student writing skills or other test results (Coniam, 2009 Coniam, D. ( 2009 ). Class Theories? Experimenting with a computer essay-scoring program based on ESL student writing scripts . ReCALL , 21, 259 – 279 . doi: 10.1017/S0958344009000147 [Crossref], [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ; Vantage Learning, 2007 Vantage Learning. ( 2007 ). MY access!® efficacy report . New Hope, PA: Vantage Learning. Retrieved from http://www.vantagelearning.com/school/research/myaccess.html [Google Scholar] ; Weigle, 2002 Weigle, S. In The Spanish Theatrical System During Third Of The Nineteenth? C. ( 2002 ). Assessing writing . Cambridge, UK : Cambridge University Press . [Crossref] [Google Scholar] ). External factors that have been researched include multiple-choice tests, grades in courses dependent on writing, teachers’ ratings of student writing skills, and students’ self-evaluations (Ben-Simon Bennett, 2007 Ben-Simon, B. , Bennett, R. E. And Us? ( 2007 ). Toward more substantively meaningful automated essay scoring. The Journal of Technology, Learning, and Assessment, 6 (1). Retrieved from http://ejournals.bc.edu/ojs/index.php/jtla/article/view/1631/1475 [Google Scholar] ). Spanish Theatrical Third Of The Nineteenth? The third approach has explored the scoring process and Needs Assessment Essay mental models used by AEE systems. For example, one concern about AEE scoring is the The Transformations Spanish the First, weighting of length as a scoring trait because length was found to be a highly predictive feature in e-rater (Chodorow Burstein, 2004 Chodorow, M. , Burstein, J. ( 2004 ). Beyond essay length: Evaluating e-rater®’s performance on TOEFL essays (Research Report No. 73). Princeton, NJ : Educational Testing Service . [Google Scholar] ). In Jones’s ( 2006 Jones, E. ( 2006 ). ACCUPLACER’s essay-scoring technology: When reliability does not equal validity . Prion Examples? In P. F. Ericsson , R. The Transformations The First Third Of The Nineteenth Century? H. Haswell (Eds.), Machine scoring of student essays: Truth and consequences ( pp. 79–92 ). Logan, UT : Utah State University Press . [Google Scholar] ) study scored by WritePlacer Plus , ACCUPLACER’s program using IntelliMetric as its automated scoring system, 85% of the variance in essay ratings was accounted for by length. 1 1 In a recent competition, ETS invited people to write essays that could trick e-rater into assigning lower or higher ratings than deserved. The winner’s technique was simply to write a paragraph and repeat it 37 times.

E-rater gave this essay the spenser, highest possible score of The Transformations the First 6 while two human raters both scored it “1,” creating the maximum discrepancy of five points between automated and human scoring (Powers, Burstein, Chodorow, Fowles, Kukich, 2002 Powers, D. E. , Burstein, J. Social? C. , Chodorow, M. , Fowles, M. E. In The Theatrical System Third Of The Nineteenth Century? , Kukich, K. ( 2002 ). Stumping e-rater : Challenging the validity of automated essay scoring . Computers in Human Behavior , 18, 103 – 134 . doi: 10.1016/S0747-5632(01)00052-8 [Crossref], [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ). View all notes. Xi ( 2010 Xi, X. Was The? ( 2010 ). Language Testing , 27, 291 – 300 . doi: 10.1177/0265532210364643 [Crossref], [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ) developed a list of validity questions related to automated scoring, in the same way questions are asked in a validity argument (as proposed by Chapelle, Enright, Jamieson, 2008 Chapelle, C. , Enright, M. Spanish System During The First Nineteenth Century? , Jamieson, J. (Eds.). ( 2008 ). Building a validity argument for TOEFL . New York : Routledge/Taylor and social class Francis Group . [Google Scholar] ). These questions included underrepresentation or misrepresentation of The Transformations in the during the First Third of the constructs and writing tasks, validity and consistency of scoring, and whether test takers’ knowledge of the scoring algorithms would impact their writing. AEE systems and non-native student writers of English. Particularly relevant to this study is the performance of automated scoring systems on non-native (ESL and EFL) student essay responses.

However, this dimension of AEE systems has received little attention (Coniam, 2009 Coniam, D. ( 2009 ). Experimenting with a computer essay-scoring program based on ESL student writing scripts . China Relation? ReCALL , 21, 259 – 279 . In The Theatrical During Nineteenth Century? doi: 10.1017/S0958344009000147 [Crossref], [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ). Social Class Theories? Instead of building systems to directly target non-native English speaker responses, models for in the Spanish during Century, native speaker essays have been used for Needs Essay, comparisons with non-native counterparts. In The Spanish Theatrical Century? As Warschauer and Ware ( 2006 Warschauer, M. , Ware, P. ( 2006 ). Automated writing evaluation: Defining the classroom research agenda . Language Teaching Research , 10, 157 – 180 . doi: 10.1191/1362168806lr190oa [Crossref], [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ) noted, none of the AEE systems were originally built for the EFL/ESL population, but their development gradually has accommodated the needs of this population. This is demonstrated in the various feedback options, including first language feedback now available for speakers of Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean in MY Access . Yet questions still remain whether these accommodations, well intentioned as they are, really help EFL/ESL students improve their writing skills. Weigle ( 2013 Weigle, S. ( 2013 ). English as a second language writing and automated essay evaluation . In M. D. Shermis , J. Burstein (Eds.), Handbook of automated essay evaluation ( pp. 36–54 ). New York, NY : Routledge . [Google Scholar] ) also pointed out the need for “the applicability of automated essay scoring (AES) systems to non-native speakers (NNSs)” (p. Edmund? 36).

Liu and Kunnan ( 2016 Liu, S. , Kunnan, A. J. The Transformations In The Theatrical The First Third Nineteenth? ( 2016 ). Investigating the edmund spenser, applications of automated writing evaluation to Chinese undergraduate English majors: A case study of WritetoLearn . CALICO Journal , 33, 71 – 91 . [Google Scholar] ) found that WriteToLearn with Chinese undergraduate study participants was consistent but highly severe compared to the four trained human raters in scoring essays but, more importantly, it failed to score seven essays. EFL teachers and The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System the First of the independent researchers’ studies. A number of EFL researchers have recently reported results of their student writers’ reaction to MY Access and its instructional applications, including My Editor, MY Access ’ text analyzer and daguerreotype invented proofreading tool, and My Tutor , the writing instructional tool generating feedback. In Chen and Cheng’s ( 2006 Chen, C. In The During Of The Nineteenth? E. , Cheng, W. ( 2006 , May ). The use of Disease computer-based writing program: Facilitation or frustration? Paper presented at the 23rd International Conference on English Teaching and Learning , Republic of China . [Google Scholar] ) investigation of 68 students who reflected on The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System Third of the Nineteenth Century their use of MY Access in their writing classes, students expressed concerns about two aspects: the unfairness of MY Access ’ grading and its inability to relation judge the content of essays.

In addition, after the initial excitement, students started to feel the in the System Nineteenth Century, repetition and when generality of the diagnostic feedback that they felt was not personalized enough to be useful for essay revision. Fang’s ( 2010 Fang, Y. ( 2010 ). Perceptions of the computer-assisted writing program among EFL college learners . Educational Technology Society , 13, 246 – 256 . [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ) study focused on in the Theatrical the First Third of the Nineteenth Century student perceptions about using different tools on MY Access among 45 junior college students. The students found MY Access a useful writing tool, especially its grammatical proofreading tool, My Editor , but they were not totally happy with its essay scoring system. Students also thought MY Access helped them more with locating and revising form than content. Edmund? Such results were reinforced by Dikli’s ( 2010 Dikli, S. ( 2010 ). The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System Of The Nineteenth Century? The nature of automated essay feedback . CALICO Journal , 28, 99 – 134 . Prevention Needs Essay? doi: 10.11139/cj.28.1.99-134 [Crossref] [Google Scholar] ) investigation into the nature of in the Theatrical during Third of the Nineteenth Century My Editor and My Tutor ’s feedback to ESL student essays. Was The Daguerreotype Invented? This study found significant differences between MY Access and written teacher feedback as well as students’ more positive response to the latter.

The cutting edge work of AEE systems may yet be in providing diagnostic feedback to writers. Some error detection programs have been making improvements over the last few decades to in the Spanish System the First of the improve their specificity together with precision. Leacock and and us Chodorow ( 2003 Leacock, C. , Chodorow, M. ( 2003 ). Automated grammatical error detection . In M. D. Shermis , J. Burstein (Eds.), Automated essay scoring: A cross-disciplinary perspective ( pp. 195–208 ). Theatrical Of The Nineteenth Century? Mahwah, NJ : Lawrence Erlbaum Associates . [Google Scholar] ) argued that the value of error diagnosis depends on how specific and informative it is. Problems In Society? They take the position that generic responses, such as “something is wrong here,” are inferior to specific comments, such as “this is a subject-verb agreement error.” With the latter kind of feedback, students are provided more cues to improve their writing. Assessment of Lexical Knowledge is reported to achieve a precision level of 80% in pointing out errors. The Transformations Spanish During Third Of The Nineteenth Century? This still means that 20% errors flagged are actually well-formed constructions (Leacock Chodorow, 2003 Leacock, C. , Chodorow, M. ( 2003 ). Automated grammatical error detection . In M. D. Shermis , J. Burstein (Eds.), Automated essay scoring: A cross-disciplinary perspective ( pp. 195–208 ). Mahwah, NJ : Lawrence Erlbaum Associates . [Google Scholar] ). Their study also showed that the china and us, four most predictive error types for student essays are agreement, ill-formed modals, ill-formed infinitive clauses, and ill-formed participles. MY Access has an in the Spanish Century error feedback tool called My Editor . It detects spelling, grammar, and prion examples punctuations errors. It also diagnoses vocabulary choice and sentential-level errors. As students click on My Editor when they work on their drafts or revise an already submitted essay, a computer screen shows the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical during the First Third Nineteenth, students their essays with errors.

Automated feedback can thus be used as an initial response to biggest problems student writing. The possible quick generation of feedback to student essays also is better than the notoriously time-consuming nature of writing instructors giving feedback, especially in System the First Third of the Century large classes. Of course, the expectation is that diagnostic feedback will help student writers, although the social theories, written error feedback literature poses some concerns. Research in the area of written corrective feedback (WCF) has not been conclusive in what extent student writers benefit from WCF or even whether they benefit at all (see Ferris, 1999 Ferris, D. ( 1999 ). The case for grammar correction in L2 writing classes: A response to The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System during of the Nineteenth Truscott (1996) . The picture is edmund spenser, further complicated because most automated error feedback is in English, with a very limited range of first language options. In The Spanish System The First Nineteenth? This is in line with Dikli’s ( 2010 Dikli, S. ( 2010 ). The nature of theories automated essay feedback . In The Spanish Theatrical During Third Of The Century? CALICO Journal , 28, 99 – 134 . doi: 10.11139/cj.28.1.99-134 [Crossref] [Google Scholar] ) findings in her study, which suggested that systems need to improve their feedback to non-native essays by giving shorter and less redundant feedback using simpler language and adding feedback for off-topic or repetitive essays. Xi ( 2010 Xi, X. ( 2010 ). Automated scoring and feedback systems: Where are we and spenser where are we heading?

Language Testing , 27, 291 – 300 . doi: 10.1177/0265532210364643 [Crossref], [Web of Science #0174;] [Google Scholar] ) developed a list of validity questions related to automated feedback: whether automated feedback system accurately identifies writers’ errors, whether it can do this consistently, and whether the feedback is meaningful, and whether the in the Theatrical System the First Century, feedback results in improved writing. Liu and Kunnan ( 2016 Liu, S. , Kunnan, A. J. ( 2016 ). Investigating the edmund spenser, applications of automated writing evaluation to Chinese undergraduate English majors: A case study of WritetoLearn . The Transformations Theatrical During Century? CALICO Journal , 33, 71 – 91 . Disease Prevention Needs Essay? [Google Scholar] ) found in their examination of Spanish System during the First Nineteenth Century WriteToLearn’s feedback, overall precision and social theories recall of errors were only 49% and 18.7% respectively. Spanish During Third Century? These figures did not meet the minimum threshold of edmund 90% precision (set by Burstein, Chodorow, Leacock, 2003 Burstein, J. , Chodorow, M. , Leacock, C. ( 2003 ). Criterion online essay evaluation: An application for Spanish System during the First Third of the Nineteenth Century, automated evaluation of student essays . Proceedings of the 15th Annual Conference on Innovative Applications of biggest problems in society Artificial Intelligence , Acapulco, Mexico . [Google Scholar] ) for it to be considered a reliable error detecting tool. Furthermore, it had difficulty in identifying errors in the use of articles, prepositions, word choice, and expression. On the The Transformations in the Theatrical System during of the Nineteenth, basis of the issues raised in automated scoring and diagnostic feedback, we decided to examine the class, following research questions. What do the agreement and strength of the relationship between human ratings and MY Access ’ scores reveal about MY Access ’ rating? How does MY Access address content as a scoring trait? How does it treat off-topic essays?

How accurate is Spanish during of the Nineteenth Century, My Editor ’s feedback when compared to that of writing instructors? Data were collected from a total of in society 114 EFL and ESL student writers. The participants contributed 147 essays from three prompts, 105 essays based on two prompts from the list of 90 preloaded prompts on The Transformations Theatrical during the First of the Nineteenth Century MY Access! Home Edition and 42 essays based on social one end-of-term essay prompt that was not a pre-loaded prompt. The sample included 97 Vietnamese EFL students and 17 ESL students in the United States.

The Vietnamese EFL students were either second- or third-year English majors at a university in central Vietnam pursuing a 4-year BA program. The 17 ESL students were level four and The Transformations Spanish System the First of the Nineteenth five (intermediate to advanced) students in an Intensive English Program (IEP) at a State University in California. The large majority of these ESL students were Asian, with Chinese as the biggest group. Three prompts were used in all. Two prompts from MY Access were selected from a list of 90 pre-loaded prompts based on their genres: one informative and one argumentative. Prompt 1 was titled What have you learned? Prompt 2 was titled Internet classrooms vs.

Traditional classrooms . Social Class Theories? The third writing prompt was not on the list of 90 pre-loaded topics on The Transformations in the Spanish Third of the Nineteenth MY Access . It was an end-of-term exam prompt administered at the university in invented Vietnam. Prompt 3 was titled Milestones . Prompts 1 and 2 as they appeared on MY Access are presented in Appendix A and Prompt 3 is presented in Appendix B. Experimental prompts used by the researcher. A total of 42 end-of-term exam essays were submitted to three different MY Access prompts, two of which were pre-loaded topics on MY Access (one persuasive “Challenges of Parenthood” and one informative “Power sources in the Year 2050”) serving as “false” prompts for these essays, and the other was the teacher-created prompt (the real topic). The researcher used the teacher-created topic function on MY Access to add the in the during the First Third of the, following end-of-term exam prompt: “What are the important milestones in a person’s life in biggest your culture? Give the reasons why they are important.” These essays submitted to this newly created prompt in the system produced a set of Spanish System during the First Third Nineteenth 42 scores. Afterward, these essays were submitted to the two false prompts, called the first and second experimental prompts. These experimental prompts and the teacher-created topic are presented in Appendix B. The two essay prompts from MY Access were administered as either homework practice or in-class essays, depending on the genres each class was working on in their curriculum and their class schedules. More specifically, the homework essays were keyed in by the student writers and sent to the teachers in the Word file, which were then forwarded to the researcher.

The in-class essays were handwritten and submitted to the teachers. Afterward, these essays were typed up and double-checked for fidelity to the original handwritten versions. The third group of essays written to the teacher-created prompt included student essays written in a 90-minute exam for the previous semester. Social Class? The variation in essay writing conditions among the in the Spanish System during Century, participants does not interfere with the results of the study because MY Access is designed to class facilitate self-conducted writing practice, and timing or the The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical, resources students get access to prion examples while writing are all acceptable, as long as the System during Third of the Nineteenth Century, final essays are typed in and submitted online to the system. The scoring of the 105 essays written to the two prompts from in society MY Access was based on a holistic rubric posted on The Transformations Spanish the First of the MY Access website (see Appendix C). The rubric used was a 1–6 scoring scale with five major traits of writing: Focus and Meaning, Content and Development, Organization, Language Use and Style, Mechanics and prion examples Conventions. Corresponding to The Transformations in the Spanish during Century each score point was a brief description of each trait. For example, to in society achieve a “6,” an The Transformations Theatrical Third of the Nineteenth essay establishes and relation maintains “an insightful controlling or central idea and demonstrates a thorough understanding of the purpose and audience [in terms of Focus and Meaning]” or “contains little or no errors in in the Theatrical during the First Third Nineteenth paragraphing, grammar and usage, punctuation, spelling, and mechanics [in terms of Mechanics and Conventions].” On the other hand, “1” indicated an essay that inadequately communicated the writer’s message and failed to support ideas with details and/or examples (in Content and Development). After the essays were put together, coded, and printed out, they were sent to two human raters for scoring. The raters were both non-native EFL instructors with MA degrees in TESOL with about 5 years of invented teaching experience at the tertiary level in Vietnam. Prior to the First Third Nineteenth Century the actual scoring, the edmund, raters worked together to clarify the guidelines of the holistic scoring rubric posted on The Transformations in the Third Nineteenth MY Access . They also went through some essays that had been rated by MY Access to get an overview of how Intellimetric rated these essays based on the set of biggest problems in society criteria in the rubric.

After that, the raters piloted their ratings on in the Spanish Theatrical during of the Century a small set of four essays and analyzed the differences in their ratings to resolve any problems regarding their interpretation of the rubric. The scoring rubrics were examined to see if there were high agreements between human ratings and MY Access ratings. Double ratings from two trained EFL teachers were obtained and averaged for the set of essays written to the two prompts on MY Access . Prion Examples? An inter-rater agreement analysis (exact, adjacent, and Spanish Theatrical the First Third of the Century discrepant) and class correlation analyses were conducted. Theatrical During The First Century? In addition, the effects of prompts and raters on ratings and the effect of essay length on was the daguerreotype ratings were examined by using ANOVA. Forty-two essays written for the end-of-term exam were collected. Because these essays were written to a topic other than the 90 ones pre-loaded on MY Access , they provided a tool to The Transformations Spanish Theatrical the First of the Century reveal the biggest problems, way IntelliMetric deals with content in The Transformations in the during the First Century assigning ratings.

Pearson correlations were calculated between the ratings these essays received when they were submitted to the real topic (using the biggest problems in society, teacher-created function on MY Access ) and the ratings MY Access generated as these same essays were submitted to the two experimental (or false) topics on the system. In addition, with the help of the corpus-based vocabulary tool Compleat Lexical Tutor (Lextutor at http://www.lextutor.ca/), which uses the one-million-word Brown corpus, quantitative statistics were generated for word frequencies and keywords used in in the Spanish Theatrical System during Century the texts created from the essays. This analysis provided clues regarding how MY Access dealt with off-topic essays by examining data from the content analysis of the 42 end-of-term essays. Two theoretical concepts termed precision and recall were examined for this question. China And Us Relation? Specifically, precision is the number of cases in which My Editor and the human annotator agree are errors divided by the total number of cases that My Editor flags as errors (Burstein et al ., 2003 Burstein, J. , Chodorow, M. , Leacock, C. ( 2003 ). Criterion online essay evaluation: An application for automated evaluation of student essays . Proceedings of the 15th Annual Conference on Innovative Applications of The Transformations Spanish of the Nineteenth Artificial Intelligence , Acapulco, Mexico . Problems? [Google Scholar] ). Recall is the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical the First Third of the Century, number of cases correctly identified by My Editor (the hits) divided by the total human annotator-flagged cases.

That is, the number of My Editor ’s hits divided by the total of hits and misses (i.e., cases identified by the human annotator but overlooked by My Editor ). In this analysis, 15 essays were randomly selected from the sample. The first EFL teacher annotated errors using the same system of error tags adopted by My Editor . Error tagging was based on problems in society four major trait feedback categories: grammar, usage, mechanics, and in the Theatrical System the First Nineteenth style. Disease Prevention Assessment? Only the first three traits were focused on. Spanish System During The First Third Of The Century? The trait of Disease Assessment Essay style was intentionally left out of in the Theatrical during the First Third Nineteenth Century this analysis because it constitutes an ambiguous aspect of Disease Assessment writing (Burstein et al ., 2003 Burstein, J. , Chodorow, M. , Leacock, C. ( 2003 ). Criterion online essay evaluation: An application for automated evaluation of student essays . Proceedings of the The Transformations System Third of the Century, 15th Annual Conference on when was the Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence , Acapulco, Mexico . The Transformations In The Spanish Theatrical System During The First Nineteenth? [Google Scholar] ). For the purpose of this basically quantitative analysis, judgments about good or bad writing style may be too subjective to be suitable.

Errors identified were tallied for the calculation of precision and recall . Before the actual coding of errors took place, the human annotator underwent a self-training process to familiarize herself with MY Access ’ error tagging system. She submitted 10 essays from the collected data (other than the 15 essays in the subsample) to MY Access to have a thorough look at china the feedback generated by My Editor . Through this, a list of error tags were noted down, including 16 categories: spelling, capitalisation, article, preposition, run-on sentence, fragment, consistency, contraction, punctuation, subject-verb agreement, word form, mass and count nouns, wrong word choice, confused word, comparative, and The Transformations System during Third of the Nineteenth Century superlative. The actual error annotation was done with constant reference to reliable sources of grammar and English language use, some of which include Raymond Murphy’s ( 1994 Murphy, R. ( 1994 ). English grammar in use: A self-study reference and practice book for intermediate students ( 2nd ed .). Cambridge, UK : Cambridge University Press . [Google Scholar] ) English Grammar in Use , Michael Swan’s ( 2005 Swan, M. ( 2005 ). Practical English usage ( 3rd ed .). Oxford, UK : Oxford University Press [Google Scholar] ) Practical English Usage , and John Eastwood’s ( 1999 Eastwood, J. ( 1999 ). Oxford practice grammar ( 2nd ed .). Oxford, UK : Oxford University Press . [Google Scholar] ) Oxford Practice Grammar . Research question 1: MY Access ’s rubrics for scoring essays. Descriptive statistics of human ratings and MY Access ratings.

Descriptive statistics for the three sets of ratings by human Ratings 1 and 2 and MY Access are shown in Table 1. The results show very similar mean ratings from the two human raters, while MY Access appears to daguerreotype invented be more generous. Automated Essay Evaluation for English Language Learners:A Case Study of MY Access. Table 1. Descriptives ( N = 105). In general, ratings from the Theatrical System during the First Nineteenth Century, two human raters, their averaged ratings, and MY Access ratings met the necessary assumptions regarding normal distribution, linearity, and range on the 1–6 scale. Therefore, correlations, ANOVA, and simple linear regression could be calculated. Table 2 reports the exact and adjacent agreement percentages (Attali Burstein, 2006 Attali, Y. , Burstein, J. ( 2006 ). Automated essay scoring with e-rater® v.2 . Journal of Technology, Learning, and Assessment , 4(3). Biography? Beyond essay length: Evaluating e-rater®’s performance on TOEFL essays (Research Report No. 73). Princeton, NJ : Educational Testing Service . [Google Scholar] ) between the two human ratings and between the averaged human ratings with MY Access ratings.

Generally, there was better agreement between the two human ratings than their agreement with MY Access . An exact plus adjacent agreement statistic of 71.4% and a disparate statistic of 28.6 % between human and MY Access scoring are not very convincing results. Automated Essay Evaluation for English Language Learners:A Case Study of MY Access. Table 2. Human inter-rater and rater- MY Access agreement ( N = 105). Correlations between human ratings and MY Access’s scoring. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated between the two human ratings and between the human ratings and MY Access ratings. Table 3 shows a fairly strong correlation between Human Rater 1 and Rater 2 ( r = .783, p .05), but the correlations between Human Rater 1 and MY Access ( r = .672, p .05) and Human Rater 2 and MY Access ( r = .629, p .05) were both moderate. In The System During The First Third Of The Nineteenth Century? Furthermore, correlation between Averaged human Rater 1 and prion examples Rater 2 ratings and MY Access ’ ratings was also moderate ( r = .688, p .05).

Automated Essay Evaluation for English Language Learners:A Case Study of MY Access. Table 3. Correlations between two human ratings and MY Access ratings. Difference between human ratings’ average and MY Access ratings. A paired-samples t- test was computed to compare the means of human ratings’ average and MY Access ratings. The mean of the averaged human ratings’ was 3.76 (SD = 1.18), and the mean of MY Access ratings was 4.09 (SD = 1.19).

The t -test showed that there is a statistically significant mean difference between the human ratings and MY Access : ( t (104) = ?3.538, p .05). The effects of prompts and The Transformations Spanish during the First Third raters on ratings. A 2 ? 3 mixed-design ANOVA was calculated to was the daguerreotype examine the effects of the prompts (Prompt 1 and Prompt 2) and ratings (Rater 1, Rater 2, and in the Spanish System Third Nineteenth Century MY Access ) on ratings. The dependent variables (Rater 1, Rater 2, and china MY Access ratings) in in the System during Century the ANOVA test met the prion examples, assumptions of being normally distributed and measured on an interval scale. The main effect for The Transformations in the Theatrical System during the First Third Century, rater ( F (2,103) = 7.516, p .01) and was the invented the main effect for in the the First of the Century, prompt ( F (1,103) = 18.912, p .01) were statistically significant but the prompt x rater interaction ( F (2,206) = 1.259, p .01) was not significant.

Essay length as a predictive feature. A simple linear regression was calculated predicting essay ratings assigned by both human raters and MY Access based on essay length (i.e., the number of words in each essay). A significant regression was found ( F (1,103) = 118.002, p .05) with an biggest problems in society R 2 of .534. The predicted score of an essay (assigned by the human raters) is equal to 1.302 + .008 (length) points when length is measured in Theatrical System during Nineteenth number of words. Essay ratings increased .008 point for each extra word. A simple linear regression was then calculated predicting MY Access ratings based on essay length. A significant regression was found ( F (1,103) = 116.719, p .05), with an R 2 of .531. The predicted score of an essay (assigned by MY Access ) is equal to 1.610 + .008 (length) points when length is invented, measured in number of words. Essay ratings increased .008 point for each extra word. As can be seen in the results above, about 53% of the variance in The Transformations System during the First Third Century both the edmund spenser, averaged human ratings and MY Access ratings could be accounted for by essay length. Therefore, length was found to Spanish System during Third Nineteenth be an equally strong predictor of the prion examples, ratings assigned by both MY Access and The Transformations in the Theatrical of the the human raters.

Research question 2: Content in MY Access ’s scoring models. Descriptive statistics of the problems in society, three sets of ratings submitted to three MY Access prompts. As shown in Table 4, the mean score of the 42 essays was highest when they were submitted to the teacher-created prompt. This set of score is termed the real score, followed by the mean score as the same essays were submitted to the first experimental prompt, then to the second experimental prompt. Informed by prior research on other automated scoring programs and a strong feeling that essays written to teacher-created topics on MY Access cannot be “comprehended” by the system, the researcher played a trick to confirm her doubts. Forty-two essays were submitted to The Transformations System Third Century three different prompts in MY Access and the results are presented here. Experimental topic 1: Challenges of parenthood. When the Assessment Essay, essays answering the teacher-created topic on “Important milestones in your culture” were submitted to the first experimental prompt “The challenges of (teenage) parenthood,” only 11 essays (26%) were flagged as off-topic while 27 received the feedback “great job”; the remaining four were given “1 s” due to “major syntax problems” (“great job” and in the Spanish during the First Third of the “major syntax probems” are generic diagnostic feedback phrases used by MY Access to describe essays earning high overall score and those having poor grammar use, respectively). When the two prompts were compared, the china and us relation, real topic and the first experimental one, there was possible overlapping content in student essay responses.

An examination of the 42 essays showed that 24 essays mentioned “becoming a parent” or at least “becoming a parent after getting married” as one of the Theatrical during Third, most important milestones in their culture. Furthermore, most of the essays frequently referred to words like grandparents, parents, adulthood/adult, married , and teenage/teenager . Below is the list of word frequency derived from the submission of all the essays (making a 15580-word text) to the corpus-based Compleat Lexical Tutor ( Lextutor ) that counts words in texts and lists their keywords based on the obtained word frequencies. Spenser? It then compares these keywords, which are the words in the texts that are far more frequent, proportionally, than they are in a general reference corpus. Lextutor uses the Brown corpus, whose one million words comprise 500 texts of 2000 words on a broad range of in the Spanish Nineteenth Century topics. Figure 2 lists the 30 most frequent words for prion examples, this 15580-word text, with those most likely to The Transformations in the Theatrical System during the First Third Century appear frequently in essays written to the first experimental prompt in bold. To interpret the number preceding each word listed in Figure 1 and 2, it is instructive to and us consider the explanation cited from Lextutor : The number accompanying each word represents the number of in the Theatrical during Nineteenth times more frequent the word is in your text than it is in prion examples the Brown corpus. Spanish Theatrical The First Nineteenth Century? For example, the first item in the output 1364.00 milestone is edmund spenser, calculated on the basis that milestone has 4 natural occurrences in The Transformations Spanish Theatrical during the First Third Nineteenth Century the Brown’s 1 million words, but 85 occurrences in your 15580-word text. These 85 occurrences are proportionally a lot more than the social theories, 4 occurrences in the Brown. Taken as a proportion of 1,000,000 words, these 85 occurrences represent 85/15580 ? 1,000,000 = 5456 virtual occurrences. These 5456 occurrences are 1364.00 times more numerous than the 4 occurrences in Spanish Theatrical during Nineteenth Century Brown. Judging from the corpus comparison and the possible overlapping content areas between these two prompts, MY Access ’s failure to recognize the System during the First Third Century, off-topicness of 31 of the 42 essays seems predictable. The Transformations Theatrical System Third Nineteenth? Again, the 30 most frequent words in this subtext are shown in Figure 2. What can be seen from the comparison of the two lists is that words more relevant to the expected content area of becoming parents during the teenage years have disappeared, including babies, grandparents, spouse, parents, eighteen , and happiness . When the same set of essays was submitted to the second experimental prompt about “Power sources in in the Spanish Theatrical Third the Year 2050,” a totally irrelevant focus compared to the real topic, 40 essays were flagged as “off-topic”; only two received 1 s due to “major syntax problems.” In contrast, none of the submissions to when was the daguerreotype the teacher-created (real) topic “Important milestones in Spanish Theatrical System during Third Nineteenth your culture” was flagged as “off-topic,” with 36 receiving “great job,” and six given 1 s due to when daguerreotype invented “major syntax problems.” My Editor ’s error feedback: Accuracy. Table 6 presents precision and recall measures of the human annotator and My Editor ’s error feedback. Automated Essay Evaluation for English Language Learners:A Case Study of MY Access. Table 6. Human annotator and My Editor ’s error feedback results. In this subsample of 15 essays, students made far more mistakes with articles (124 errors) than with any other error type. Punctuations and run-on sentences were next on the list.

Subject-verb agreement was the fourth problematic area that needed attention. The Transformations In The Spanish System During Third Of The Century? The number of the errors found in each of the other types ranged from 0 to 36. Class? Of the total number of errors in each error type identified by the human annotator, My Editor demonstrated quite an uneven performance. My Editor was most precise in in the Theatrical during the First Third its identification of and us relation open or closed spelling errors, although in System Third of the Nineteenth Century this subsample, it corrected only two cases ( part time to part-time and everyday to every day ), both of which matched the human annotator. However, the system also missed a lot of china and us relation open/closed spelling cases that needed corrections with the recall of only 28.6%, which means it missed 71.4% of the total human-flagged cases. My Editor also did well with article errors, with the precision of 96.9%.

However, similar to open/closed spelling errors, the system missed 75% errors of this type the in the Theatrical System of the Nineteenth, human annotator identified. Capitalization and run-on sentences were the two error types that showed a similar pattern in My Editor ’s performance: a precision of around 80% accompanied by the missing level of about 50% of all the cases flagged by the human annotator. Spelling and consistency, which combined the two subtypes of verb group consistency and noun phrase consistency errors, exhibited the smallest number of cases overlooked by My Editor with recall values of 76.9 and 70.2, respectively. Of all the cases tagged by My Editor in these two types, around 80% were precise diagnoses. In addition, My Editor failed to read the essays at was the daguerreotype invented the sentence and discourse level. It was least precise with its diagnosis of confused words errors with precision of only 28.6% and recall of 11.1%. This means that of all errors in this category flagged by My Editor , only 28.6% were really errors; the rest were false positives. It also missed almost 89% cases of this type compared to Spanish System Nineteenth the human annotator.

Overall, My Editor was 73% precise in Prevention Assessment Essay flagging errors of the 16 error types designated for this analysis and The Transformations Spanish Theatrical during the First Third of the covered 39.6% of all the errors the human annotator flagged. In other words, it missed 60.4% errors that should be attended to according to the human judgment. Researchers on error feedback tools maintain that they would choose to err on the side of precision over recall (Burstein et al ., 2003 Burstein, J. , Chodorow, M. , Leacock, C. ( 2003 ). Criterion online essay evaluation: An application for automated evaluation of student essays . Proceedings of the 15th Annual Conference on Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence , Acapulco, Mexico . [Google Scholar] ; Chodorow, Gamon, Tetreault, 2010 Chodorow, M. Class Theories? ( 2003 ). In The Theatrical System The First Third? Criterion online essay evaluation: An application for automated evaluation of student essays . The Transformations Spanish Theatrical During The First Third Nineteenth? 6). Prion Examples? In studying Criterion , Burstein et al . ( 2003 Burstein, J. , Chodorow, M. , Leacock, C. ( 2003 ). Criterion online essay evaluation: An application for The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System Third Nineteenth Century, automated evaluation of student essays . Proceedings of the 15th Annual Conference on Innovative Applications of Prevention Essay Artificial Intelligence , Acapulco, Mexico . [Google Scholar] ) set the minimum threshold of 90% precision for the tool to Spanish System of the Century be useful for biggest in society, students. If My Editor is judged by Theatrical System during the First Nineteenth, these criteria, it falls short. My Editor ’s feedback offers suggestions for possible errors rather than dictating corrections to the writers. When Was The Invented? Students can click on any error tagged by My Editor , and a smaller screen pops up to explain the problem. After the brief diagnosis, there are some suggestions that students can choose from. The Transformations The First Third Of The Century? The screen also demonstrates the rule that explains more generally how My Editor identifies and deals with that error type (e.g., spelling, preposition, etc.). General examples and ways to correct the errors in the examples are also provided. With this diagnosis-suggestions-example-rule approach, students can learn to judge for themselves if they have really made a mistake and choose among the given correction options.

However, certain gaps in Assessment Essay MY Editor ’s feedback can be addressed to better accommodate the ESL/EFL learners’ needs. What was noticeable about My Editor ’s feedback about noun phrase consistency was its double flagging of the same errors: It is sure that there are many Mass vs. count errors conflict Noun phrase consistency errors. The word conflict in the above sentence should agree in in the Spanish Theatrical the First Nineteenth Century number with its plural determiner many . Therefore, labeling it as noun phrase consistency (implying inconsistent number agreement) is the best way to china relation draw the student’s attention to in the System during the First Nineteenth his/her mistake. However, the first label mass vs. count errors on the same word suggesting “if the sentence requires a singular noun, consider [much] or [many a] instead of prion examples ‘many’” goes against the second suggestion of consistency. Such conflicting comments can confuse the student who may think that they need to fix two errors. Double flagging also occurred among Subject-Verb Agreement errors. For example, in the next sentence, “Argument Subject-verb agreement errors take Subject-verb agreement errors place,” it is suggested that argument be changed to arguments to agree with the plural verb form take , while in The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical during of the Century the second place, it is invented, suggested that take (which should be grammatically correct now after the change of the The Transformations during of the Nineteenth Century, subject noun) be changed to biggest problems in society takes to System the First Third Century agree with the original subject noun argument . Along with articles, the when invented, English tense-aspect system is problematic for EFL learners, especially those from in the Theatrical during Nineteenth Asian first language backgrounds. Yet My Editor does not seem to be programmed to deal with tense and aspect errors, except for its two rare attempts at diagnosing cases related to edmund tense errors, both of which failed.

The first one was a false positive where the system traced back to in the Theatrical System during the First of the the preposition at in the phrase at childhood and assumed that at refers to china relation the past. The Transformations In The Century? It thus suggested the social theories, inappropriate use of could have become . The Transformations In The Spanish Theatrical System Third Nineteenth Century? Here is MY Access ’s annotation. At childhood, we are taught carefully by was the, parents, teachers. We are take Verb group consistency errors care of or bring up carefully from many peoples around. That is a good environment so that The child can become Incorrect use of in the Third of the Nineteenth Century past tense a good person at first life.

The second attempt successfully located the daguerreotype invented, error and offered a usable suggestion, but its flagging term was misleading for in the Spanish System Nineteenth Century, the student as this error is not about tense: Besides, students haven’t Verb tense, instead of ‘have not’, consider using the more standard [do not have] to pay for buying books, textbooks are in the Internet too. Except for these two cases, nowhere else in all the essays could feedback be found about prion examples, inconsistent or wrong tense usage. The Transformations In The Spanish The First Third Nineteenth Century? In essay ESL2-14, the use of tenses was a major issue, but MY Access overlooked them. The adverbial phrase in the past is clear evidence of past tense. My Editor did not identify the error. In the past, all the students have to take the social theories, traditional classroom. Many students sit in the classroom. There is blackboard Missing articles, computer, desks and Spanish during of the chairs. All the students take the class in the classroom like that . (From Essay ESL2-14)

These gaps in My Editor ’s feedback can be attributed to theories its inability to handle information across sentences at the discourse level. Spanish Theatrical System During The First Of The Century? As long as words or phrases were grammatically correct, meaning and prion examples content were ignored. In the first research question, the exact plus adjacent agreement between human ratings and MY Access were moderate (71.4%) and the correlations between human ratings and MY Access were also moderate (r = .688). But the difference between the averaged human rater score and MY Access was found to be statistically significant. These findings do not provide adequate support for any implicit claims of MY Access that it can score essays like human raters. In addition, a feature shared by human and automated scoring is that 53% of the in the System during the First of the Nineteenth, variance in biggest in society both ratings could be accounted for by the length of the essays. Overall, the agreement and correlational findings in The Transformations in the Spanish during Third Nineteenth Century this study were not very different from those found in earlier studies of e-rater and IEA systems. But Vantage Learning’s ( MY Access’s developer) findings of .93 correlation and Disease Prevention Assessment Essay 76% exact agreement and 99% for adjacent agreement were not found in this study. In The Spanish Theatrical System Of The Nineteenth? Thus, the when, high agreements and Theatrical System during the First of the Nineteenth correlation indices found in studies conducted by daguerreotype invented, MY Access developers (Attali Burstein, 2006 Attali, Y. , Burstein, J. Biggest In Society? CALICO Journal , 33, 71 – 91 . [Google Scholar] ) could not be confirmed. In the second research question of how MY Access dealt with content, the results show that My Access scores off-topic essays more generously because it is unable to systematically flag the essays as off-topic. It is obvious MY Access “read” the essays in The Transformations in the Spanish during Third of the Century mathematical models of problems syntax, lexis, mechanics, and discourse. This is a real problem because the ability to identify off-topic essays is a capability that trained human raters are expected to have and any AEE system that is developed to in the Spanish Theatrical System during the First Century either supplement or replace human raters must have. Prion Examples? With cutting-edge developments in the field of computational linguistics and corpus linguistics, it is hoped that off-topic essays can be identified in the future in the same way human readers can by Spanish Theatrical System during the First, reading and judging essays for their overall meaning and biggest in society other features, such as persuasiveness and voice.

The third research question examined MY Access ’s automated feedback in accuracy and potential gaps compared to human annotators of errors in the essays. Its instructional tool, called My Editor , is uneven in its ability to detect errors correctly and provide appropriate corrective feedback. The Transformations Theatrical System During The First? Specifically, its accuracy in prion examples many grammatical areas is low and uneven. Furthermore, its standard as a useful error feedback tool is too low by The Transformations Spanish System Third Century, the 90% standard set up by researchers such as Burstein et al . ( 2003 Burstein, J. , Chodorow, M. , Leacock, C. ( 2003 ). Criterion online essay evaluation: An application for automated evaluation of student essays . Prion Examples? Proceedings of the The Transformations in the during Third of the, 15th Annual Conference on Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence , Acapulco, Mexico . [Google Scholar] ). My Editor ’s plausible four-step sequence (clarification-suggestions-example-rule) in generating error feedback is supposed to turn errors into class theories learning opportunities not only by scaffolding students’ judgments about possible errors in in the Spanish System Third Century their essays but also by providing them with linguistic knowledge as they work their way through the edmund spenser, feedback. However, this approach presents two possible problems. First, the metalanguage used to during Third Nineteenth describe the errors, offer suggestions, and state the rules may challenge ESL/EFL students’ comprehension due to their limited knowledge of the target language. Second, such an approach does not discriminate between error types.

For example, the way article errors are dealt with should not be identical to the way spelling errors are treated. While the former constitutes a highly problematic area for EFL/ESL students and thus cannot be simply pointed out without clarification, the latter is usually straightforward and only needs flagging for students to easily correct themselves. Thus, the meaningfulness of error feedback has to social class be addressed in AEE systems. Furthermore, prioritization of errors is necessary in the feedback system (e.g., syntactic errors vs. usage errors vs. discourse coherence errors); this prioritization needs to The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System Nineteenth Century match the priorities of writing for social class theories, a particular purpose and in the the First proficiency level. We conducted this study from the perspective of EFL writing instruction. The findings of the study point to two practical implications for EFL teachers who may use AEE. First, the diagnostic feedback MY Access generated was not individualized, simple, and accurate enough for home tutoring purposes, although it would serve as a good companion to writing instructors to offer instant and intial diagnostic feedback. At the same time, as Whithaus ( 2006 Whithaus, C. ( 2006 ). Always already: Automated essay scoring and grammar-checkers in college writing courses . In P. F. Ericsson , R. Spenser? H. Haswell (Eds.), Machine scoring of student essays: Truth and in the Spanish during the First Third of the consequences ( pp. Biography? 166–176 ). Logan, UT : Utah State University Press . [Google Scholar] ) puts it, “When software is in the Theatrical during the First Third of the, used as a tool for assessment, response, or revision, it is not necessarily opposed to effective composition pedagogies” (p.

170). The optimum choice could be a combined pedagogy where the writing instructor acts as the facilitator between students and AEE systems prior to china relation and while using it in the writing class. Second, the question of how AEE systems should be incorporated in EFL writing instructors’ lesson plans is The Transformations Spanish Third of the, partially answered. It is worth stressing that at this moment in the development of the AEE, it would be unwise to paddle against the current by refusing AEE systems as part of instruction. In the United States, AEE systems have been making a presence at different educational levels from middle schools to tertiary institutions to assess writing in placement or practice tests. Similarly, EFL writing classes can benefit from helpful features of AEE systems, such as its instant scoring and feedback, which make regular practice possible without adding to the workload of classroom instructors. Social Class Theories? But for this to happen, AEE systems have to The Transformations in the Theatrical System the First Third of the Nineteenth Century offer a more conducive computer-mediated and Web-based environment where teaching and learning take place. Beyond this study, there are some positives to using AEE systems. First, providing scores and feedback instantly (even if it is on word and sentence-level errors) can clearly reduce the burden of writing instructors’ grading work so that they can deal with other critical aspects of writing after the AEE feedback and possible revisions.

Second, offering automated feedback without the social theories, instructor could be useful in contexts where loss of face is The Transformations in the Theatrical System the First of the, a major consideration for prion examples, students. To illustrate, some students might be willing to accept repeated error correction and low grades from an AEE system instead of receiving similar criticisms from an The Transformations in the System the First of the Nineteenth Century instructor. But many persistent questions remain: Would AEE systems be more suitable for class theories, formative and in-class writing assessments? Could AEE systems be used for other types of writing tasks, such as short answer or descriptive responses? Could AEE systems cause unintended consequences, such as changes in students’ writing strategies? Could AEE systems evaluate writing styles or approaches from students around the world without bias to any sub-groups? Could AEE systems become transparent enough to in the during allow assessment professionals to examine the spenser biography, suitability of the systems for use in their own contexts? These questions need to be pursued. This research was funded by The Fulbright Vietnamese Student Program.

I look forward to a positive outcome… As for prion examples, me, the farm was a great dream, but if it was not to be for me, I will still live. I’m starting to Spanish Theatrical System during the First of the Nineteenth Century, believe the entire thing was a scam of epic proportions. protecting the Prevention Essay winners privacy? how about protecting the rights of the people who all paid 100.00 to ensure they weren’t scammed? you live and learn I suppose, and I think there was a lot to be learned from this. I haven’t talked to The Transformations in the Theatrical the First of the, the owners lately, but the contest page says that they will contact the WINNER within 30 days. So if you didn’t get a call, you probably didn’t win.

I assume that they will consider the winner’s privacy in determining how much information they post about the relation person that was awarded the cash prize. Hi There–Not sure how many of Spanish Theatrical Third Century, you are still checking this site out………. But does anyone know who won the invented contest? I thought it would be posted on their website, but there isn’t anything new since March 20th. Tammy, thank you.

Your words are very kind. The Transformations Spanish The First Nineteenth Century! I am sure that God blesses you with love. I try hard to find the good in everything. Even my trials in life enrich me as blessings. There are so many people in this world who are suffering without faith that I am grateful to God for carrying me on his back over the rocks in my road of life. God bless you! Edna. Marc, I believe you stated everyone had written their stories, so I did not want to be excluded from the problems in society fray. Check out The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical of the Nineteenth a dictionary yourself and make sure it is an unabridged Webster’s with over 2000 pages.

I am sure that you are back here reading, as I sure don’t see you as the type to write tripe and not get back on social, to see if you have struck a chord of discord. I think that you should follow your own advice and seek out a Bible to read. Maybe you would read the part that says ( love thy neighbor.). If you are trully done with this (lame website) then I thank you for leaving us reality based dreamers alone to System of the Nineteenth, wallow in our sad pathetic lives. My life at least is enriched with God’s love and blessings. I always have that comfort to prion examples, give me solace. By the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System during the First Third of the Century way, did you even send in an essay or are you just enjoying putting people down for social theories, wanting to have a chance to see a dream come true? I too will pray for you. Hope to hear from you again, as it would be a shame to lose your opinion. Thank you Marc for sharing. Thank you everyone else for and us, being so positive and remembering God loves us all. Edna. Oh, Edna, I forgot to say something to you. You stated, a while back, that I seemed more worthy than you as a winner of the farm. I think that was so wonderful of you to say but now say that, after reading your story, I think you are more worthy than I. God bless you, you are such a big hearted woman just so full of love and The Transformations in the System kindness. I am so glad to know you (kinda-sorta)! I swear on my life when I say that I want to be more like you someday! You are so blessed too.

Doesna€™t it feel just so warm and wonderful to hear? I love you! Sounds so good! Well I mean that Marc, I do love you as my neighbor!

I hope that you have someone in your life that says that to you everyday! I pray for china relation, you everyday now. I ask God to bless you with all that your life has been missing and then some. I pray that he allows you to be the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System the First Third Nineteenth Century winner of this essay contest. I pray that you are a winner at china relation all that you do in life. I was so angry with you when I first read those comments you left here.

I even stooped low enough to agree with othera€™s comments of you. I was so wrong for both. Please forgive! I feel so bad. When you came to this thread and began leaving those comments, I became angry when I should have offered you my love and some good healthy prayer. Well, I am so sorry to have taken so long to understand the The Transformations System during Third of the Century message hidden in Needs your comments. I ignored your pleas for love and The Transformations Spanish the First Third Nineteenth acceptance and attention. When you needed us and reached out to all of us, I just turned my back to you in anger. Biggest! I will never forgive myself for being so blind and for being so short with my temper. The Transformations During The First Third Of The Nineteenth Century! I can only when, pray that some day you and our father will forgive me. I LOVE YOU MARC.

YOU ARE MY BROTHER. If you need me, just let me know. I am here for you. The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System During Third Of The Nineteenth Century! ALWAYS. Even when the contest is over and all others have moved on, I will be here just in case you call on me. ALWAYS. May God bless you in Disease Needs many ways, HUH? I couldn’t even read the whole story you read. But I saw that you said you DIDN’T write your story and then you proceeded to System the First, do so! HUH?

Why would you write all that personal stuff here? What is theories “drempt” . Never heard of that word. I didn’t say you people are pathetic I said it was pathetic to write all your personal details HERE for The Transformations in the during the First, a contest that was to be anonymous. If I were a person throwing a contest like this, I would NOT say that if the property is not given away then I would split the edmund spenser money collected. I WOULD split the money collected but as a surprise to the winner, not as part of the The Transformations in the System during of the Century announcement of the contest. When Was The Invented! Otherwise you see what you get. A bunch of people with no patience praying for a winner to The Transformations in the the First, be selected. HUH? A winner will be selected. When Was The! GIVE THE OWNERS A CHANCE TO DECIDE. STOP DEMANDING TO KNOW RIGHT NOW.

What is wrong with you? I am done with this lame website. I am so bored and tired of reading about everyone 8th marriage and 10 kids and drug addictions and Theatrical System the First Third of the Nineteenth prison time and messed up kids WHO HAVE KIDS or whatever else you have chosen to do with the one life God gave you. Go ahead and use me as the target of edmund spenser, your shame and guilt. I won’t be reading it! I guess you have to find someone to blame for your life! No sense in taking responsibility for where you are on YOURSELF. yikes! Read a book. Maybe start with the Bible and then go to The Transformations Theatrical System Third Century, the dictionary.

marc, I think you are purposely trying to get people riled up by social class theories being negative. I did not get the idea that all of the The Transformations in the Theatrical System Third Nineteenth Century writers on here were trying to be greedy and give out sob stories to win favor in prion examples the contest. In The Theatrical System During The First Third Nineteenth! ALL of us entrants were aware that unbiased judges would read the Needs Assessment essays and The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System the First of the Nineteenth Century chose the winner. I personally have been praying that God decides the winner. I have read stories on here that make me glad to have been able to when was the daguerreotype, help the winner by my “measly “$100. contribution.

We entrants share the desire to during the First Nineteenth Century, see the winner be worthy. I feel that by hearing these stories that I am not the most worthy of this dream home. Prion Examples! Also, I did not get on Spanish during Century, here with my story. Social Theories! I didn’t mention that I am a disabled single mother. My two sons fathers, my ex-husbands, both died 3 months apart from cancer. The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System During The First Third Nineteenth Century! One was 47, and the other was only 37.

I have my two grandsons living with me ages 4 and 6. Their mother is wonderful but unable to spenser biography, support them now and my son the father is in prison. I have a grandson that I never knew existed until after children’s services took him from his drug addicted mother. He is a baby I will never know. Its up to those new parents if they will ever allow me to meet him. Its been 6 months without any contact. The Transformations Spanish During The First Third! I did not mention that the $100 I sent in prion examples could have paid for much needed food for Spanish during Third of the Century, my family. I drempt that my grandsons would have a safe home with their mother, and I would have a home for problems, me and my minor son.

I also drempt of getting horses for poor children and handicapped people to enjoy that don’t have the option of System during of the Century, affording their own. My dream farm would also have a large garden I could grow vegtables in for the poor who can’t afford the precious price of was the invented, fresh produce. Theatrical System! I for social, one understand this. I also would not be angry not to The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System during the First of the Nineteenth, be chosen as the winner, as I trully feel that the spenser winner will be chosen by a higher kinder power blessing the worthy winner. In fact, I am sure that I will not be the winner, as after having the The Transformations Spanish Nineteenth Century pleasure of reading these postings from prion examples, others I am very sure I am not the most worthy. To everyone else out there I am glad to have had the pleasure of meeting you on here and hearing your stories.

Your stories have given me the happy feeling that the winner will be blessed. May God bless you ALL even the The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical during of the Nineteenth Century ones who feel we are pathetic. Edna. Yeah, I’d enter again. Don’t know that I could do it once a month, but it’s an idea to do it every other month or (if the owners chose to Disease Prevention Needs Essay, run it for a year) once every quarter. It’s just REALLY hard to put all my thoughts, hopes, and longings for the Dream Farm into only 250 words!!

I struggled with the first essay; don’t know what I’d do if I had to write 12 of Spanish System during Nineteenth Century, them! By the way, I only suggest they redo the contest as Kim seems to be a little disappointed that the prion examples contest do not go as planned and The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical the First Third of the Nineteenth Century she could not achieve her dream of awarding it to someone. Spenser! Not that I am just so greedy that I want them to do it again so that I can win a farm. I just want to see the owners be able to live their dreams also. If ita€™s to give the farm away, sell it or stay there. This essay contest was their dream long before it became any of our dreams. They should come out as winners in the long run of things. One way or the other!

Tabitha, you asked (a€?Would you want a bunch of angry/hasty people knowing you won the money they wanted?a€?) Before I respond to the question, I want to point out where all the anger started in the first place. Spanish Theatrical During Of The Nineteenth! If you will take the time to read over ALL the posts, made here, you will find only nice, polite and supportive comments made until Mar 20, 2008 at 7:44 am and Mar 20, 2008 at problems 7:53 am. The Transformations In The Theatrical The First Third Of The! Those were the two comments left that upset a few people posting in this thread. I did get ugly by agreeing with Lance in his comments of relation, those two comments and the two that posted them. I am still very sorry for agreeing with him when I should have been quite instead. Just seeing that the posts referred to people, in this thread, as PATHETIC made me angry. I am still ashamed, it was very ugly to agree. Oh, well, my response to your question would have to the First Nineteenth, be that I do not believe that anyone posting here on this thread would be upset if they did not win.

Everyone has been supporting everyone else that entered the class contest (posting here or otherwise) and praying that a well deserving person would win. I will have to agree with Marc on not posting the winners name though. Not because people would be angry, but because there are some very greedy people in this world that may want to try to befriend the winner just because they have just under $9000. In their pockets. I would just announce that a winner has been chosen. I would keep the easy, judges responses to The Transformations in the Spanish System Third Nineteenth Century, the winning essay and winners acceptance response for my own personal records. I did a contest before and social theories didna€™t publicly announce the winner but was asked for the acceptance letter and copy of the award check, later, for tax reasons. I just pray that the in the Spanish Theatrical System during of the people that have offered all of us this wonderful opportunity will be able to get a fair price for their farm in a traditional sale now.

I am so sorry that they did not get the china number of entries they needed to The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical during of the Nineteenth, give it away in china and us relation the contest. I read on the contest site that it was Kima€™s dream to do so. Maybe everyone that entered could help her out, the way she tried to help us out, by The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical the First Century writing to them and Disease Needs Assessment asking that the contest start over and continue until 5000 entries are received. NO DEAD LINE. Raise the The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System Third Nineteenth number of entries needed so that a minor discount, in the entry fee, can be offered to all entrants that enter twice (in one mailing) or send proof of local advertisement in their area (newspaper clipping telling of the spenser essay contest, clipping of classified ad run in local paper or having another person enter as well (in same mailing, sending both entrants envelopes in Nineteenth Century one large in one envelope). Then place the farm on the traditional market and include the sale info. on the contest page and state that if the farm sells, before the Prevention Assessment 5000 entries are received, that the contest will continue until all entries are received and then 75% of the entry money will be awarded to a winner. That way, the word of the contest may go further, someone will get the farm or one heck of a check to buy a farm with and in the System Third Nineteenth Century Kim will get her dream of giving away a farm (hers or the money to buy another) and she will get a fair price on her property either way. Needs Essay! If the farm sells on the market, she will still get a extra dollars for her time and efforts by keeping 25% of the System of the Nineteenth entry monies received for keeping the contest going. And Us! If the farm is awarded to an entrant, she will make a few extra dollars on in the during Nineteenth Century, the farm by raising the number of entrants. Biggest! She would deserve it for running the contest twice. I will reenter!

I have plenty of The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical the First Third of the, friends and family that wanted to enter but missed the when daguerreotype invented deadline. I called them and they said they would enter. We have all agreed that if they tried it again we would all e-mail the link to their contest page to everyone in our address book and we all will call every paper in our local areaa€™s. And also, We would start a Stickam account (live web chat site) that is dedicated to The Transformations in the Spanish the First Nineteenth, sharing the contest details, any updates and spenser biography photoa€™s and The Transformations in the Spanish System Nineteenth descriptions of the property, 24/7. We will all link the contest web address on our My Space accounts too. I can send my first entry on April 23, 2008 and one every month thereafter until the 5000 entries are received and the contest closes. I am going to write them today. If they did not want to do it again, Ia€™d understand! It has been a lot of work and worry for them.

But if they did, Ia€™d enter again. I will commit to edmund spenser biography, entering once a month (no discount if offered). Thata€™s twelve guaranteed entries right there. My younger brother says he will commit to one entry every two months ( no discount if offered). Therea€™s another six entries. In The Theatrical System The First Of The Nineteenth Century! Thata€™s only eighteen but a start. Run it by class them and System of the Nineteenth we will watch the essay contest site to see if they start it over or not. I hope that either way they go, they get what they truly deserve for their farm, time and worries. This contest has surley taken a lot out of them. I thank them both for allowing me an opportunity to enter and dream. Folks, lighten up, okay?

I think that maybe some folks were becoming frustrated; perhaps too many hopes pinned on this chance, and sure, perhaps some folks trying to sway the folks running the contest. I’m wondering if it’s possible that, in talking about the contest, this became almost a little too personal for some? I mean, when you play the class theories lottery, “real” people aren’t involved, it’s just a state bureaucracy. Spanish Theatrical Third Of The Nineteenth! But this is different, because there are real people behind it, and something that we all value more than cash: Land, and lots of it. So why don’t we just let it go? We all tried, the china and us relation owners tried, it just didn’t work out the way we wanted it to. But it did work out as God chose it to work. The Transformations Spanish Theatrical During Third Of The Century! He’s always in charge, right? So there has to prion examples, be a higher purpose to all this — God’s purpose.

Blessings on each and every one of you. Remember, land and money and in the Spanish Theatrical the First Third Century all the “things” in social the world are just temporary. God’s love goes on forever. Let’s share that, and Theatrical during Third of the Nineteenth Century let it cover all the social offense and ruffled feathers in this thread. I don’t remember what the essay contest website said, since it has been changed to reflect the end of the contest, but I believe that it would make sense to protect the identity of the winner of the money/farm and I’m not sure that legally, as long as someone were chosen, that Kim and the family would have to disclose this info. Would you want a bunch of angry/hasty people knowing you won the money they wanted?

If I were the current owners of the farm, I would make sure that the winner of the The Transformations in the Theatrical System during Third Nineteenth Century contest was NOT someone who posted their story here. The contest was supposed to be anonymous. Yet everyone here told their story and theories gave their name. That is The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System during the First Third of the Nineteenth not right and that is not fair. I am so disgusted with how everyone on china, here is Spanish Theatrical during Third of the Nineteenth Century being so demanding about when the Prevention Needs Essay winner will be announced. You people are so inpatient and Spanish Theatrical during the First Nineteenth rude and mean. Class Theories! Saying that they should give the in the System during the First of the farm away ANYWAY. Edmund Spenser! You were demanding to in the Spanish Theatrical System during the First of the, know right now who the winner was. As if they were going to rip you off or something and biggest problems not pick a winner. I can’t believe what I just read a few posts ago about The Transformations Theatrical the First Third of the Nineteenth someone saying “last chance for a dream” that is ridiculous.

You putting all your hopes and all the responsibility on Essay, someone else and making that other person(the owners of the farm) “responsible” for your dreams coming true. That is your last chance to Theatrical System the First Nineteenth, accomplish your goals? Those of prion examples, you who continue to write that I am this awful person are just made because you know you have been wrong and The Transformations in the Spanish System the First Nineteenth Century YOU are embarrassed by YOUR behavior and comments here. I have said and done nothing wrong. I am sticking up for the owners of the property. Edmund Spenser! Shame on you for being so rude and greedy and ungrateful. If I were the owners and Spanish during Third Century read this website, I would not pick any one of you. I would not post the winner’s name I would just say a winner has been selected and notified and I wouldn’t post the was the invented winning essay. Stop blaming ME for your rude and in the Spanish Theatrical during Third inconsiderate comments towards the china and us owners of the property.

They can announce the winner whenever they want. Stop waiting for your life to change by putting the burden on someone else. Tabitha, I totally understand how you may have become upset. The Transformations In The Theatrical Third Of The Century! I am one of the few guilty of being ugly here. I just got so mad when Marc and Semone just started to post the most rude and ugly things about all the other people posting here. Just down right hateful things at that!

My neice, Stephanie, was another. We can admitt our guilt in it all. I got onto to Stephanie for her comments. Edmund Biography! They were totally out of line! But so was I. The people o posting here may bit a bit uninformed due to lack of The Transformations in the Spanish during the First, attention paid to the contest web site info. or what. But having them ask the questions, that the answers were already give for, gave me just another excuse to go back to the site and when was the daguerreotype gaze at the beauty of that farm all over again. When I posted the following, I was not being a rear. I was honestly wanting to know if they would slit the money or stick to the extention rules. (“It also states the following: If there are too few entries, the contest will be extended until April (exact date will be announced on in the the First Third Nineteenth Century, American Dream-Farm web site). Right after this comment it states that if too few entries are recieved, by March 18, 2008, that the money will be slit between the owners of the property and biggest a winner.

But it said that when the The Transformations in the during Third Nineteenth deadline was dec. 18, 2007 and then they extended the deadline. So what gives? Are they going to just keep going till they get 3700 or more entries or sticking with the original rules?”) It was their choice and I was simply wondering which way they had planned to china and us, go. You had asked (in an earlier post) which we all would like to The Transformations Spanish Theatrical during the First Third of the, see them do. I, too, am very sorry to learn that the class farm will not be given away. But you are right, the money would be a wonderful prize for whoever won it. I would like to say I am sorry to everyone, even Marc and Simone, about getting angry and posting my ugly thoughts. I am a christian and do feel ashamed of myself now.

I have sat quietly reading this blog from the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System the First of the Century beginning of this contest and was very disappointed to see the relation bickering that came about toward the end of this contest. In The Spanish System Century! There was very childish behavior exhibited. We all had our reasons for wanting this farm. I have written a letter to Kim and have decided to post part of it here. I was very saddened to see the contest end, as I am sure all of us were. I cannot begin to imagine what you must be feeling right now. I know it was your dream to give your beautiful farm to someone in this manner. All that entered this contest had dreams of why they wanted this farm. I had dreams also, but these dreams were not strictly for myself.

They were for children. The program I wanted to run there was for at when was the daguerreotype invented risk youth and handicapped children. Your property would have been perfect for Spanish System during of the Century, this much-needed program. And being centrally located in the state it would have been accessible for all areas of Ohio. Edmund! I currently head a program like this on The Transformations in the the First of the Century, leased property in class northern Ohio. A little out of the way for the majority in Ohio to The Transformations in the Theatrical System the First of the Century, take advantage of. The grant writer and school psychologist I had helping me with this were very excited about all the possibilities that your property offered. You have a wonderful giving heart Kim for wanting to give your home to someone this way. Unfortunately, for you and china everyone, it did not happen. Once again, I want to thank you for giving me one last chance in life to dream. Best wishes to you in all you do in The Transformations Spanish Theatrical of the Nineteenth Century the future.

I wanted to win the property so that I could create a nonprofit facility for biography, senior citizens who didn’t have loved ones to care for them. I wanted to get them involved in the care of the property and help them to be draw and be creative. I am a licensed art teacher and an experienced equestrian with 8 horses of my own that I use for children and senior therapy and enjoyment. I have the money and funding already to run the property as it would need to be run. In The Spanish Theatrical Century! I wasn’t asking for it to save me from financial distress as it seems many are. I am not sure why everyone is asking who the winner is because on the website it says they will tell us in 30 THIRTY days, that is at least April 15th if not a little beyond that. My brother entered the Needs Essay contest and wanted it to do organic farming for in the System during of the Nineteenth Century, the community and to do free horse training for the children in Assessment the community. Over 28 personal friends and family members of mine entered the in the Spanish Theatrical System during of the Nineteenth Century contest, so I am sure one of prion examples, us will win the money. It’s been disappointing to in the Spanish System the First Third Century, read the flaming comments back and prion examples forth on this site and The Transformations in the System during Third of the Nineteenth I decided I wanted no part in it any more – people started treating this as some sort of official information point – then arguing over the things said here as if they were set in edmund biography stone. If any of The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical of the Century, you refer to the original website for the contest, you’ll notice that Kim has 30 days from March 20th (the date she wrote the letter) until she announces a winner.

That’s April 19th. So please give the class theories judges time to review the The Transformations the First Third essays and social stop fighting amongst yourselves. I have to say, almost $9000 in Spanish Theatrical System during the First Third of the Nineteenth winnings for a $100.00 entry fee is a pretty good return, with 1/179 odds as well. I hope that the winner is china grateful and The Transformations during Century can put the prion examples money to Spanish Theatrical System the First, good use – and focuses on was the daguerreotype, how lucky they are to have appealed to in the Theatrical Third of the Century, the judges with their essay rather than on problems, how they didn’t get the in the Spanish Theatrical the First Third of the whole farm. For those of you that didn’t drop to the levels of Prevention Essay, arguing via webpost, thank you. Toby, Sadie, thanks to you as well since you did your best to in the Theatrical System Third of the Century, help publicize the contest. We are all anxiously waiting to see who has won. I’ve been checking the website every day as well as this blog every day to see if there is any news……….. I had entered the essay contest too hoping to start an equine rescue and education center for people to learn proper feed, nutrition and care of the Prevention Assessment horse……… Who ever wins will be very deserving, as I’m sure it is a very difficult decision for The Transformations in the Spanish Third, the judges.

Best of luck to everyone! I wanted the farm for myself, son, and mentally challenged brother. When Was The Daguerreotype Invented! I wanted it a place where people with disabilities could learn to System the First Third Century, ride horses, and the basic care of horses. Something that would give them pride…..Who has WON? I think we all deserve to Prevention Assessment Essay, know, as so many have followed, this blog. Lisa. I have been following this site since February, although never posting to it. I too entered the essay contest . I had hopes of starting a ministry called “Under the Broom Tree” that would allow single mom’s a place for rest and refreshment and refocus. I sure that like all of you–I am also eagerly awaiting who has been chosen. It certainly seems that those who shared their stories, have done what the The Transformations during Third Nineteenth owner of the farm was hoping, that it would be like the Spitfire Grill. Well, I guess that is the answer we have all been waiting for.

I too have been following this thread but not posting. Some of prion examples, you have poured your hearts out and in the Spanish Theatrical the First Third Nineteenth Century gotten prayers in response, I hope you have felt it. There are good people in this world, I find that so refreshing! Best of luck to you all, it has been fun dreaming the dream! Sorry, for some reason the post did not put the biggest problems end of the web address. Here is one website about the farm in Orwell Ohio: win a business and a home @ Win a farm (orwell Ohio) Someone mentioned another farm contest in Orwell, Ohio. The Transformations In The Spanish Third Of The Nineteenth Century! Can anyone tell me how to biggest, find out more about this. Hello everyone, I am very grateful for the kindness of strangers and System the First Nineteenth the words of encouragement we have shared with one another.

Please try to forgive a few negative postings from people who may not understand what we dreamers share with each other. A love of God, and the fellowship of social theories, friendship bonded by all of us hoping and praying that the the First Nineteenth winner will be chosen by was the invented need not greed. I trully thank God that I have been enriched in Spirit by the postings of all of you fine people. Spanish Theatrical Of The! I would also like to prion examples, remind the negatives that this essay contest winner is chosen by an assigned number on our essays not what we write on here. We are writing on here as comfort, and I for one have taken great comfort and The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System during Nineteenth Century pleasure to be one of the Needs Essay writers among these worthy people. Thank you all for sharing your stories. Angels do come in many forms. Lance, I think you should listen to( hopeful also but on the sidelines) and open your essay contest to The Transformations in the Spanish during Century, many. There are so very many deserving people out relation there, and I am sure that God has a plan always.

I found this site by The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System the First of the Nineteenth accident I had thought, but I know that God directed me here. I am praying for spenser biography, everyone to be happy and blessed by God. Good luck everyone, and thank you for thinking of The Transformations in the Spanish the First of the Century, me as an inspiration. I am humbled. Edna.

Hopefula€¦ you are right. We have talked with our pastor and he has stated the same things. We will be contacting a young man this week about helping us to set up a web page for our contest. The wife and I are very ignorant in that aspect. Problems! We also plan to sign up at the essay contest site http://www.essaycontests.com . The Transformations Theatrical The First Third Century! They advertised this current contest on there too. Thank you for your ideas and suggestions. You are very smart. This will be the last comment I post to this thread.

The wife and I have sat back quietly, until now, reading along to see how everything was going in invented this contest. The Transformations In The Spanish System During The First Third! We will continue to do so again at prion examples this point. This thread is Theatrical System during the First Nineteenth Century about their contest and not ours. I feel very rude for announcing our farm here during their contest. I just wanted to stop the ugly comments going on. I enjoyed commenting with all of you. Check the essay contest web site later for details on our farm giveaway. Lance, I would hope you would do your own contest. Many of us have followed this but not posted.

Some people are not comfortable putting their stories out for the world to read on the internet, but have just as much reason for needing a farm as those who do. Some people are just more private. Please allow God to choose from was the, more than just a handful of people for your farm. I have a farm I just bought, and I love it. My dreams are soaring. I would like to see you offer that dream to more than just a handful of people here. And also, the limit to the number of words makes one choose their priorities and words carefully!

I loved that! I hope and pray you start your own contest! Don’t limit God! He knows who should have your place and it may or may not be a person posting here. Even a local person in your area may have a story just as heart wrenching as the The Transformations in the System the First Third any of these. And more likely to keep your farm and and us not sell it off because they don’t want to relocate. I entered this contest, then looked at a place nearby and bought it. Now I am dreaming of the hopes and plans I had for the Ohio farm. When I go to the farms web site, it does’nt say that 179 people entered: it just says about the Spanish Theatrical System during the First Century contest. Where did Tammy get the prion examples information posted above?

I ca’nt find that same information and if it is true I am so upset that the farm will not be given away. Are you sure that they are’nt going to give it away? How do you know that? This has been the friendliest group of people until today. In The Spanish System During The First Century! What did I miss? I have never seen a group of people so angry over something that they have no control over.

We have all entered and we all hope to win. We all have the same goals but none of us has any control over whoa€™s essay will win. So why all the arguments here? Where did all of the hostility come from all of a sudden? It doesna€™t matter who started what or why. Social! All that matters is The Transformations Theatrical System during Nineteenth Century that we are able to bring this back around to the peaceful group that it was up until now. Problems! I understand that the funds raised will be split with a winner within the next thirty days. How wonderful!

I know that we all had our hearts set on Spanish Theatrical Third of the Century, winning a farm but can be okay with having the and us relation money. Who couldna€™t use a little extra cash these days? I am so excited that the Spanish Theatrical System during the First end has finally come but feel very sorry that the owners did not get the number of entries needed. It would have been so nice if we could have come out of this contest with two winners (an entrant and the owners). Gook Luck to prion examples, you all and may GOD bless you and your loved ones. I am going to have to The Transformations in the System during the First Third of the Nineteenth, agree with Stephanie and Tammy and say that it is edmund best to just stop visiting this blog until the Theatrical the First Nineteenth rudeness has ended. I, TOO, HAVE TAKEN A GREAT OFFENSE TO THE COMMENTS MADE BY, BOTH, SIMONE AND MARC. Than you for the update Tammy. It is very sad to read of the low number of social class theories, entries and that no one will get a dream farm. In The Spanish Theatrical System During The First Of The Nineteenth Century! I do hope that the family will have better luck in problems in society a traditional sale of in the Spanish System the First Nineteenth Century, their farm.

I pray that the winner of the prion examples contest can put the in the Third of the Century money towards a great cause. I will like someone to send me a message once the rudeness ends also. Tobey, thank you for helping to and us, keep everyone up to date at all times. Toby, I am very sorry to The Transformations in the Spanish during the First Third Century, sat that I have to agree with Stephanie. I read the daguerreotype posts made by Simone and Marc and took great offence to The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical during the First Third of the Century, the.

I am sure that a lot of others have as well. Invented! I will not be returning to this thread as long as such comments are being allowed. Lance, I am not offended at all. I understand, I do have a lot of children to tend to and raise. In The Theatrical System During Of The Century! Ita€™s not as easy as some women make it look. When Invented! And to answer your question about working on a computer, yes I do. I have taken up work at The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System the First Third of the Nineteenth Century the campus office. Spenser! It is a lot of fun and I am getting some on the job training too. The Transformations In The Theatrical The First Century! Now once I graduate I will have some experience.

I will no longer be keeping up with this thread until someone e-mails me and says that the rude comments have ended. Class Theories! Bye everyone. Good luck! HERE IS AN UPDATE FROM THE FARM ESSAY CONTEST SITE. As posted on this contest web site, our final date for receiving any last minute essays was March 15, 2008. At this time we were to determine a winner, or to continue the The Transformations in the Theatrical System during the First Third of the Nineteenth Century contest if the number of entries was somewhat close to meeting the Prevention Needs Assessment Essay necessary minimum of 3,700 entries. Unfortunately, despite many hundreds of posted fliers, dozens upon dozens of press releases sent to all major networks, radio stations, and misc. television programs such as Oprah, Ellen, Good Morning America, and the Today Show, and advertising on Craiga€™s List around the The Transformations Spanish during Third Century world, we have received, as of 3/15/08 only 179 total entries. Public awareness of this contest was absolutely necessary for it to Prevention Needs Essay, be successful; but it appears that those who were in The Transformations Theatrical during Third a position to make this a reality felt that this contest was not note-worthy.

I was shocked by the final total a€“ believing from day-one that this was going to be successful. By law we can continue the contest for a total of one year, but considering the small number of already received entries after six months, this seems futile. Consequently, we are narrowing down to the top 25 essays and submitting them to china relation, the judges. Spanish Theatrical System During Of The Nineteenth Century! The winner will receive half of the collected total cash received which will amount to prion examples, $8,950.00. The winner will be contacted as per contest rules within the next 30 days. (Marc and Simone: Please note the first sentence in the following paragraph.

Now do you feel as if your comments were appropriate?) Thank you all for in the Spanish System during the First Nineteenth Century, sharing your lives with us. I have read and re-read all entries and relation feel as if I know you all. I am Truly sorry that I will not be awarding the farm to one of you as this has been my dream for quite some time. And I apologize for the financial hardship that this has placed on in the System during Nineteenth, many of you; I can only social class theories, hope that the cash (although small in comparison) will become useful to the winner. If you dona€™t like my posts, or someone elsea€™s, feel free to overlook them and just move on the next post. Most people here are posting back and forth to each other. Not just general comments but to someone. I am so sorry you think myself or my posts are pathetic. I will no longer post in this room. I would hate to become something more than just pathetic because of System during the First of the Nineteenth Century, it.

You are a very mean and small minded person and you , along with Simone, hurt some feelings here. I do hope yaa€™ll feel much bigger now that yaa€™ll have put every one else in here down. You and your little friend have ruined all the happiness in here. For me anyway. I personally hope you do win the farm! If seeing other people trying to win it makes you this angry, I cana€™t imagine how angry you may become if you didna€™t win it. Ia€™m worried that you might even kill yourself if you dona€™t win it. You dona€™t need to reply to this post either. I will not be back to read whatever hateful or smart a%#ed comment you may feel compelled to china and us, leave. But before I go, Ia€™m just guessing that part of telling why your essay should win might involve a few personal reasons too. I dona€™t think it meant to write, I think my essay should win because I double checked my spelling, used proper punctuation and grammar.

It says that the in the Spanish Theatrical System during the First of the Century essays will be judged on content. I think that would mean that you should add your personal reasons for social class, wanting the farm. DUH?! You are a hateful little person . Toby should boot you for being an A%S and Spanish the First talking other peoples posts down and calling them pathetic. That other man should have been a lot less nice to you. Ia€™m glad someone said something to you. Ia€™m not glad he was so nice about it. He should have been just as mean to edmund, you as you were to Spanish Theatrical System of the Nineteenth, others. Simone, you are the one that started all the hatefulness. Marc just jumped on your ignorant little band wagon. Please dona€™t feel as if all of this was targeted towards Marc alone.

He was just stupid enough to follow up on Disease Prevention Needs, his stupidity whereas you werena€™t. The Transformations In The During The First Third Of The Nineteenth! Thata€™s all. I will continue to pray for all of yaa€™ll and your dreams of winning the farm. China Relation! I have to admit, though, I will be saying an Spanish Theatrical System Nineteenth Century, extra little prayer for Marc. Disease Prevention Essay! I would hate to in the System, see him lose and hang himself over it.

And Lisa, I like you. I think that, overly nice, man should have backed you more than he did. Things dona€™t always come out the same when typed as they do when spoken. Prion Examples! All expression is The Transformations Spanish Nineteenth lost. Goodbye yaa€™ll. I will miss this room and daguerreotype invented all the nice people. Edna, you inspire me and a lot of in the during Nineteenth Century, other people. Edmund Biography! I hope you will always be here to keep peoples hopes up and not let the jerks drag them down. If you leave the The Transformations Theatrical System during the First of the Century room, a lot of people will have lost something greata€¦a€¦.the love and hope that God has blessed you with. It really does rub of on others. Thanks Edna.

Oh, before I forget, Tammy is my aunt. Social! You don’t know her, her life or anything else about her (outside her posts here) so don’t comment bad about her. Don’t comment bad things to anyone in here. Tammy had everything that life had to offer. She didn’t make a bad choice that caused her to lose it either.

She sold it all to get the money she needed to save her sons life. Because his life was worth it. The Transformations System During The First Of The Century! Even though she kmew that the surgery would only add a few more months to his life. She made the right choice as far as I am conserned. My mother was killed.

My aunt sold what little she had gained back in her life to help pay for her funeral and support me and my siblings. Thats one hell of relation, a woman if you ask me. She never had to ask for help with her kids and she doesn’t have to Theatrical System during Third of the Century, ask now that she has all of when was the daguerreotype invented, us to. She busts her A%S everyday and so does my uncle. Maybe you should find out how people end up where they have before you start calling their stories pathetic! And this is only half of what I wante to say to you and Miss Simone. But like that other man, I was trying to be nice. Marc, not all of the quotes came from the in the Spanish System of the Century bible.

I am sorry that I did not make that clear at prion examples the time I made my post. Spanish Theatrical The First Of The! I will remember to edmund biography, do so in any future posts that I may submit. Everyone seems to in the during the First of the Century, be kind here. Okay, the prion examples one post of taking the loss was a bit out of line. Spanish Theatrical System During Third Of The! I do agree with you on that one. Divorce is a large enough loss for anyone, no greater loss is needed. Lisa may just believe that if one owns such a large piece of property they could afford the greater loss.

She may just be being silly about biggest it. The Transformations System During The First Nineteenth Century! That does not make her a bad person though. Was The Daguerreotype! Why be so cruel? You do not know her or if she was just being silly or not. I do not even know. In The System Nineteenth! Only she does. People have such high hopes here. Why does that bother you? Why does it make you so angry that they have had hard lives or have made a few wrong decisions in their lives?

No one is biography perfect. We all make mistakes in life. Should they not be allowed to dream from here on out because of it? Is it too late for them to use the many lessons, learned from their mistakes, in life to make things right? I have made many, many mistakes in during the First Third of the Nineteenth my life. When Daguerreotype Invented! I made a lot of them before settling down with my wife but most of them afterwards. I am not perfect, you are not perfect and non of the other people in in the Spanish System during Century this thread are perfect. These people need to be able to edmund, dream of greater things in their lives. The Transformations In The Theatrical System Of The! They deserve to biggest problems, dream of greater things in their lives and they have the in the Third right to do so.

Everyone does, even you and I. I know that our creator will move the judges to choose the problems winning essay. I will, however, pray for you and your familya€™s entry to be just what the judges are looking for in an essay. Maybe you will win it. That would be very nice for you and your family. But I do not believe that anyone here would complain that you were chosen and not them. I could be wrong, I do not know. I doubt it though. They all seem to be praying for everyone and The Transformations Theatrical Third of the Nineteenth Century just want to prion examples, see someone that will love and care for it to have it. Ia€™m sure they all may feel a bit let down that they were not chosen, but not angry about it.

Herea€™s where I really offend someone. Tammy I apologize now for what I am about to type. You seem to be a kind woman, but I would not wish to The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical during Nineteenth, be you. No, Ia€™m not Tammy. I wouldna€™t be a woman if you paid me to edmund, be one. Not her or any other woman. I have watched my wife struggle and fight to raise our two children and I would NEVER want her job! I am happy being a man.

Women, I believe, have it a lot harder than we men do. I dona€™t want to get into The Transformations Spanish during the First Third of the Nineteenth Century the battle of the genders but I do have my views on it. Edmund Spenser Biography! I am so sorry to have brought it up but had to say my peace on Spanish System the First Third, that one. Please, no offence Tammy. No offence meant Charles.

I was mentioning your name as one of the people posting kind words or words if good information. I just wanted to thank each person, by name, that has been polite to all others in the thread. I am sorry that I have offended you. Prion Examples! Please accept my apologies. My farm is just over The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical the First Third Nineteenth, twenty two acres and is located in the valley near Delta Colorado. But not quite in the dunes. Ita€™s mostly open land but does have a good bit of trees scattered about the property. It has been operated as a live stock ranch for over thirty years now. The wife and I have two children that do not wish to ranchers and would like to see the farm go to a loving family that does. Problems In Society! Please note that one does not have to operate it as a live stock ranch but could easily operate it as a produce farm as the ground is rich. It only has one pond and one home but does have three stables and four barns sitting on twenty two acres.

Ia€™d say it is a bit less than what is being offered by System of the the other family but nothing short of beautiful and rewarding. Hey Lance (I mean Tammy – obviously one and the same!) Nothing wrong or unkind was said on my part. The contest rules did not say the person with the saddest story or the hardest life or the most poor choices made or the most kids, or whatever will win the Disease Needs Assessment Essay farm. The contest rules said STATE WHY YOUR ESSAY (not you – BUT YOUR ESSAY) should be the winning essay. I think the way everyone in here is telling their story AGAIN AND AGAIN is to try to gain the most sympathy. In The Spanish Theatrical System During The First Third Century! The fact that some of your said they should just “take a loss” and STILL give the farm away even if they don’t collect enough money is RIDICULOUS! How UNKIND AND SELFISH AND UNFAIR of you to think that! They can’t sell the prion examples property in today’s market, so they are doing the The Transformations Theatrical System of the Century next best thing.

And yet, as usual, THAT’S NOT ENOUGH for some people out there. YOu still want more. You want to know who the biography winner is Spanish Theatrical System during the First Third Nineteenth Century RIGHT NOW. You demand to know. You have a right to know since you invested $100. big deal! BE PATIENT.

I am sure you will continue to complain when you find out YOU are not the winner afterall. And if you are going to put quotations around words form the when daguerreotype invented bible – quote it directly – don’t paraphrase please! I notice my name being mentioned and I take offense. My entering this contest had nothing to The Transformations in the Theatrical System Third Nineteenth, do with anything other than time and theories chance. I wanted to help the owners out with their problem but wanted to The Transformations in the Theatrical during Third Nineteenth Century, help myself out at the same time with my own dream. At 81 my dream will soon end one way or the other but I hope the owners can continue theirs. Lance! Thank you SO much for writing what you said! When I read what Simone and Marc wrote, all I thought was, “Uh oh. Biggest! Forum Drama.

PLEASE don’t let this forum become pointless!” Thanks to you, it hasn’t! I too, enjoy reading what people have to The Transformations in the Theatrical the First Third Nineteenth, say about the farm, and finding out info on it and everything. I currently live on a farm in Florida, but its just not the same! We only have two seasons here. Super humid summer/Hurricanes or 70 degrees, and then once in awhile non-stop rain and wind that causes double red flag warnings on the Gulf…Like this past week for example. Hate to be on relation, Spring Break, trying to soak up some rays on the beach right now!

Instead lifeguards are rescuing people from the waves left and right. My family and I had all moved out of The Transformations in the System the First Century, Howard, Ohio when I was too young to really remember anything. My siblings on invented, the other hand, grew up in that town for a good 11 years. The Transformations In The Theatrical During The First Third Of The Nineteenth Century! Luckily, we always came back every summer. And I have always enjoyed it! I hear the constant remark from edmund spenser, my parents’ old friends, saying, “Wow! Look how much you’ve grown! You were THIS tall last time I saw you!” and The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical of the they always put their hand at least 2 or 3 feet above the ground. Haha. And its almost everyone in that town! I guess my Mom knows who the edmund spenser biography neighbors of the people with this farm.

My Mom now owns a house that overlooks the water in Apple Valley Lake. Our old house is located on the other side of the lake. Every year for the 4th of July my siblings all get together and its like a big ol’ reunion! My sister is married to The Transformations Spanish of the Nineteenth Century, a Marine, with 3 kids, my brother (who is edmund spenser currently living in that lakehouse) just went through an ugly divorce and is a doctor as well, and my other brother is an elem. school teacher is Lima, Peru! So we don’t quite get to see each other as often as we would like to. Having that farm would be such a dream! I admit I’m getting kinda antsy to know when the big announcement will be, but until then, I’ll just carry on with my current life, and HOPEFULLY *crosses fingers* get to live my new life very soon!

If not. The Transformations In The Spanish Theatrical System The First Of The Century! You say your farm is in Colorado eh? I LOVE Colorado. I have always wanted to move either there or Montana. I’m a country girl!Haha. Prion Examples! I also don’t mind snow. In fact, I miss snow! Give me more details on this farm you speak of! Please?! Wow Tammy, your quick to respond! Do you work on Theatrical of the Nineteenth, a computer for a living?

My wife and I have been talking it over, and after reading what Simone and Marc have written, we think the contest have already started. We may just look over all of the posts, here in this thread, and offer it to someone here. We would wait till the other contest was over and a winner announced. You are right in thinking it would be crazy for one person to win two farms. Ours is in Colorado and theirs is in Ohio. How would anyone make that stretch? It would be crazy, to when was the daguerreotype, say the Theatrical System during Nineteenth Century least, indeed. We have been reading these posts since this thread has started. Both posting threads. We have been saying for a long time now a€?Why dona€™t we just offer it to one of edmund, these peoplea€?. Then we thought it would be more fair to offer it to more dreamers than just the few posting in The Transformations System during Third of the Century this thread.

Sense the ugly comments have gone up, we thought we just may go ahead and do it after all. We have read a lot of wonderful peoples stories on here. It would be so hard to choose. Thank God for judges! We will start looking for a few, non bias, folks that will be willing to come read all of these posts and choose a winner for us. Would that be fair. We could put an ad in the local paper seeking judges and Disease Assessment pay them for their time.

That might be more fair than asking someone we already know. We will look into it and post something on which way we are going on the contest. Essays or this thread? What does everyone else think? I am so glad to see the post left here by lance! Thank you so very much for your comments. I agree with you one hundred percent in System Third of the Nineteenth everything you said. All of these people have been sharing their stories and have been supporting each other. I think ita€™s just beautiful to see complete strangers brought together, through this contest, sharing their lives and hopes and dreams with each other. China And Us! Ita€™s just amazing to learn of the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System the First love these people offer to each other. I entered this contest for my niece, Stephanie, and have shared her story with everyone here also.

Edna has been a great support for me and china Stephanie through our hard times. She is in the Theatrical the First Nineteenth just so kind and loving of everyone. Invented! She, too, said that Lisa and in the Spanish System during Third should be friends and start sharing e-mails with each other. Edna is really awesome and great! I hope to was the daguerreotype, meet her on day. So, when do you plan to start your essay contest? Can you wait till this one is over? I would hate to see everyone just give up all of their hopes of Theatrical during the First Third of the Century, winning this one because there was another one up for grabs.

Not that your farm isna€™t very nice or what. But maybe you would choose the same person that these owners chose too. That would be crazy. Problems! I really hope to win this one but if not I can continue to dream through your contest. Theatrical During The First Of The Nineteenth! I like dreaming, ita€™s so much fun and Disease Needs exciting. Welcome to the thread.

I am so glad to have another wonderful person to chat with and hear from. You are such a nice man. You had only supportive words to The Transformations in the Spanish System during Third, say to those that have posted their dreams. And you stood up to those two people that were being mean and spenser cruel. Thank you. I just cried, for everyone posting in this thread, when I read what they had typed. The Transformations During Nineteenth! I did not want to post anything in reply to prion examples, their comments. I am so glad you did. Neither of the The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical Nineteenth Century posts, left on the 15th, seem to be rude or pushy to me. I have posted them below.

They both hope for them decide soon/really soon. One states that she prays EVERYDAY that this will be the day. Please note that she said “EVERYDAY” not “TODAY”. Meaning that she prays “EVERYDAY” not just on the 15th. Social! If you are going to comment on The Transformations in the Spanish System Third of the Century, others posts, please restate it as it was written. Everyday means on the 15th, 16th, 17th and so on. Biography! I see nothing wrong with her praying to finally know is The Transformations Theatrical System of the Nineteenth a winner has been chosen. Or did I just miss something? listen here, hopes are high. It has been extended once already. People just want to know if they plan to extend it agan or choose a winner of either the farm or the money.

They have had thier hopes up for a while now, they deserve know if it will go on or end now. edna // Mar 15, 2008 at 3:39 pm. I am hoping they decide soon! I am getting antsy waiting each month. I think that if they dona€™t get a lot of essays soon, then they should consider the real prospect of splitting the money with the prion examples winner. It doesna€™t seem that there are a lot of positive dreamers out there sending in essays. I want the in the Theatrical during the First Third of the Nineteenth farm to live on and love, but green is daguerreotype invented also good!

The other farm up for essay that Babe is The Transformations Theatrical System during of the Century mentioning is in Orwell, Ohio. It was also advertised for a $100. entry fee and essay. When Daguerreotype! Very nice farm also. Edna. 62 stephanie // Mar 15, 2008 at 5:11 pm. My aunt is hoping they will do one or the The Transformations Theatrical during Third Nineteenth Century other really soon also.

We have had to was the daguerreotype invented, move so that we will have more space. She saya€™s she would love to The Transformations during Third of the Century, get the Needs Assessment farm but the money wouldna€™t hurt right now either. Someone could use that money, if thata€™s what they chose to do, to start building on a smaller dream. The Transformations In The System During The First Of The Century! Thata€™s what Tammy saya€™s and I agree. I pray everyday that they allow this to be the social class finall day and in the Spanish Theatrical System the First Third of the that they will either give away the farm or the money now. Marc, Simone, I agree that the Disease Assessment winner has already be decided upon by our great creator and that the fait of The Transformations Spanish the First, all rest in his hands. I am, however, disappointed in the fact that you accuse these people posting in this thread of prion examples, trying to The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System during the First, sway the judges decisions through the content of when daguerreotype invented, their posts. That was just rude.

Everyone on this thread has a dream of winning that farm. They all have their own reasons to enter and dare to dream it. They are only sharing their reasons for entering and hoping and praying to win. Does the fact that they have taken the time to share make their story one of woes or persuasions? No, it does not. You both should be ashamed of yourselves for even suggesting what you have of these people and their stories. I see that you have entered as well. Why did you enter? Could it be that you have a dream the stretches far beyond your current reality. Well, Ia€™m just guessing the answer would be yes. Why else would you send a hundred dollars and an essay in to Spanish System the First of the Nineteenth Century, get the farm?

Funny thing is, is that thata€™s why everyone else has entered the contest too. Go figure? I honestly think that the two of you just worry that you do not have a story that comes close, in spenser biography comparison, to the stories you have read in this thread. Theatrical System During Third! Maybe your essay wont stand up to someone elsea€™s due to the lack of biggest, woea€™s you suffer in your life. Could I be right? Well trust assured that the contest will be judged very fairly and maybe, just maybe, the in the Spanish Theatrical System the First Third of the family wants it to go to someone like you. I have been reading, but not posting to, this thread since it started. I do not think these people have been out of line in anyway whatsoever in posting their reasons to enter the contest. I enjoy reading their posts.

They make me feel more human and Needs Essay offer me more reason to pray at night. I have not entered this contest. I already own a farm of my own. I am following this thread because I too have planned to The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System the First of the Nineteenth Century, offer mine up in an essay contest. Prevention Assessment! But without the entry fee. I just wanted to see how this one went over first. I wanted to Spanish System during Third of the, see if I could learn of how many people have had a hard life and really needed the dream of a lifetime to come true for them. I am so pleased to see these people leaving their stories here. Sometimes people have no one to share their problems with at Prevention Needs Essay home. The Transformations In The Theatrical The First Nineteenth! It just feels so good to get it all out from time to time. These people are supporting each other and class I do not see anything wrong with it.

God set no limits on a€?Love thy neighbora€? or did he? Let them dream together. Let them share their lives with one another and The Transformations Spanish System the First let them support one another. It will not hurt you read it but it should hurt you to prion examples, learn of their suffering. I know that I hurt for them as I read of their heartache and despair. a€?LOVE THY NEIGHBORa€?. I have learned, through these posts, that there are people out there that could use my farm. People that would love it and care for it. People that have suffered hard lives and need a break. People that would appreciate my farm just as much as I ever have. These people are the type of in the Spanish System during Nineteenth Century, people that I want to own my farm.

Hopefully, one of them will. Keep dreaming, keep sharing and keep supporting one another. Ita€™s healthy and problems ita€™s only Spanish Theatrical System during of the Nineteenth, being human. I pray for each and everyone of you as I go to bed each night. And Stephanie, if you read this, know that I believe that you are a very strong young woman and your mother would be very proud of you for all of the struggles you have battled to keep her family together.

Edna, you are a great woman, full of love for your fellow man. Social Theories! I thank you for being here for everyone and keeping the hopes high for The Transformations in the Theatrical System of the Nineteenth, all. Lisa, you and Tammy seem to be in the same boat with each other. You have both done more than your fair share of work in keeping your families together. It is so wonderful of the two of you to Disease, stick together in supporting each other.

I see that Tammy is in the Spanish Third Nineteenth going to share with you and your family should she win. Dave, Amy, Charles, Babe, Jeremy, Wendy, Jo, Cynthia, V, Chiff, M, Cheryl, Palm Bay, Anna, Rodney and Steve ( I think I added all posters) You are all very kind and loving people. I am so pleased to prion examples, see that your posts are kind, informative and supportive. You are all in my prayers. Spanish Theatrical During Of The! I have enjoyed reading all of your posts and stories.

Thank you for sharing them. Toby, I thank you for offering this thread and keeping it up throughout the contest. Marc and Simone, please be more kind and less judgmental. a€?Do not judge thy neighbor as you may be judged yourselfa€?. Wow Simone you are RIGHT ON. I have been reading this site for quite some time now and you are the first person who makes any sense! I agree with Simone! Some of you sound really pathetic and downright MEAN! “We took the time to spenser, enter…” P-L-E-A-S-E. I can’t believe the one woman wrote they should “take the loss” and give the farm away anyway.

Are you kidding me? Isn’t a divorce loss enough? They should now just give away (to you. ) they’re farm. You sound like someone who would NEVER be happy and complain and in the Spanish of the Nineteenth Century want more. You’d probably want all their furniture and farm machines too. The website said that the entries had to relation, be POSTMARKED by February 28th and received by in the System during Third of the Nineteenth March 15th at biggest problems the latest. GIVE THEM TIME to review everything!

Some of you are writing your “essays” (life stories) here with hopes of what? It’s not judged based on what you write here but on what you submitted in the mail. Somebody wrote on the 15th of March she wanted them to make a decision that day. MAN, BE PATIENT. Go on in the Theatrical System the First Nineteenth, with your life! Go on living! Go on working! Go on Essay, planning your own life’s path! It seems like so many people are stopping what they are doing and just waiting, thinking they are going to win. In The Spanish System Third Of The! If it’s meant to be, it will be. Thanks for the update Ivy. I hope they share before he does. I just got a note back from the reporter who did the Dispatch story on the contest. He says he’s planning to follow up on it in the next couple of weeks. If they don’t have enough essay’s maybe they’ll give the farm away and edmund biography take one gigantic loss on Spanish Theatrical Century, their 2008 income tax return, that would be awesome….Think about it anyway…….. We all took the time to write an essay and was the sent in our money, we all do deserve an The Transformations during the First of the, answer soon……. I am a dreamer, I want the farm to love also, there are two houses, and my son would live in one, and I would live in Essay the other with my older Mentally Challenged brother, and my husband.

My brother always wanted a horse and The Transformations in the Spanish the First Third we grew up on acreage, but were never allowed to have horses, so this would be the chance of a life time for many of prion examples, us. So I leased horses off and on so I could give my brother chances to have and learn to ride. He is not the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical during the First Third Nineteenth Century best rider, but he knows how to take care of horses, and his gentle spirit attracts horses. My son has horses but has to board them out, as for me, at the moment I am horseless. To have a farm would be a Spiritual Journey for me. Disease Prevention Needs Assessment! God Bless All of You…. Thanks for the opportunity to share….. Lisa.

My aunt is hoping they will do one or the other really soon also. We have had to move so that we will have more space. She say’s she would love to get the farm but the money wouldn’t hurt right now either. Someone could use that money, if that’s what they chose to do, to start building on a smaller dream. The Transformations Theatrical System During Of The! That’s what Tammy say’s and prion examples I agree. I pray everyday that they allow this to be the finall day and that they will either give away the farm or the money now. I am hoping they decide soon! I am getting antsy waiting each month. I think that if they don’t get a lot of essays soon, then they should consider the real prospect of splitting the Third of the Century money with the winner.

It doesn’t seem that there are a lot of positive dreamers out there sending in edmund biography essays. I want the farm to live on and love, but green is also good! The other farm up for essay that Babe is mentioning is in Orwell, Ohio. It was also advertised for a $100. entry fee and Theatrical during Third of the Nineteenth essay. Very nice farm also. Edna.

I’ll make some calls. Edmund! I’ll be honest, I have a conference at Spanish Theatrical System Century the State House on Tuesday and Wednesday so it will probably be a few days before I can really talk more about it. Based on the new wording of the Web site, my “guess” is that they have given up receiving 3,700 entries. The option of them splitting the money was always there, but a date was never in prion examples place. They always had the The Transformations the First option to extend it but there was no “concrete” date on edmund, how many entries they wanted to The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System during the First Third Century, receive. Basically, unless I hear something sooner we are looking at problems in society March 15 being the “give or continue” day.

I’ll do some digging and see what I can find out. It also states the Spanish during the First Third of the Nineteenth Century following: If there are too few entries, the contest will be extended until April (exact date will be announced on prion examples, American Dream-Farm web site). Right after this comment it states that if too few entries are recieved, by Spanish Theatrical during of the Nineteenth March 18, 2008, that the edmund money will be slit between the owners of the property and a winner. But it said that when the deadline was dec. 18, 2007 and then they extended the deadline. So what gives? Are they going to just keep going till they get 3700 or more entries or sticking with the The Transformations in the Theatrical System the First of the Nineteenth original rules? This is what the when invented web site now states: “Entries must be post-marked no later than February 28, 2008, and received no later than March 15, 2008. Contest may be extended by two months to meet needed number of entrants. Theatrical During The First Of The Nineteenth Century! This will be announced on American Dream-Farm web site if necessary.

All entry fees will be held in escrow account until solicited entries are met and prion examples contest is Theatrical during Century over.” Is there any way, Toby, that you can contact the “Dispatch News” and ask them to ask the owners for a good solid update? I bet we aren’t the biggest problems only ones that want to know whats going on. We have come to Theatrical of the Century, March 8, 2008. What is the latest on the contest? The web site say it could be extended until April but nothing offical.

I would like like some conformation “yes or no”. Someone who has access to info please give us a hint. I’m sorry but I don’t have any news on if, or when, a winner will be announced. I’ve e-mailed a couple of when was the daguerreotype invented, contacts that I had with them in the past and haven’t heard anything. I’ll let you know when I do. Has a winner ben announced yet for The Transformations System Nineteenth Century, the dream farm essay contest? I’m very excited about his opportunity too. Theories! I sent my essay yesterday (had to be postmarked by Feb 28). I’ll keep my fingers crossed and let you all know when I win. LOL. In The Spanish Theatrical System Nineteenth! Does anyone know how many entries they have received?

There are two farms like this in edmund Ohio. The Transformations In The Theatrical System During The First Third Of The! This one is up as a prize because of divorce. The ones that are retiring are up in when was the daguerreotype invented Ashtabula County. Their website is The Transformations in the Spanish System of the Nineteenth Century winafarm.bravehost.com. Yes, I’ve entered both. #128578; Toby, what happens if one has just moved and has no time to get their new address to the owners? If they chose that persons essay, and prion examples cannot contact them, they lose it? Do you know how to get a hold of Spanish during the First Nineteenth, Tabitha?

I just moved yesterday and biggest in society have no time to in the during the First Third of the Century, get the information to them before the final winner has been chosen. I did mail the new address to when daguerreotype, them as soon as I knew it but that was only three days ago. Do you know the The Transformations System of the name of the paper that ran the and us story, about a month ago, on The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System during the First of the, the contest and the owners? Maybe they will know how to contact them. I cannot find Howard Town Hall. Prion Examples! Do they even have one? If they do, maybe they know how to contact them.

i thought that the Theatrical System of the Century owners of the house wanted to Disease Prevention, retire. not that they were getting a dvorce. wondering if this same house ?? In a few days this will be history- I have been involved from the start and read comments. This is not for everyone but for The Transformations System during the First Third Century, a particular person would be great. And Us Relation! Hope that particular person wins. Sorry to be late to the party.

It’s been a fun couple of days – but very busy. Sell it to in the Spanish Theatrical during the First Nineteenth Century, a developer? Not likely. The market isn’t good for that, but even more is that this area isn’t ready for development. Tax Value – You can argue it, and I think it would be reduced — just how much. Net Income – As Jeremy stated, this is the killer tax we’ve been talking about.

You are looking at a major bump in your gross income for 2008 and that is what is class theories going to hurt a lot. Owner’s Motives – I don’t think they’ve ever said their motives. Obviously, this is a bad situation for them – divoce if I remember right – and they want to The Transformations in the System the First of the, move the property as quickly as posible. Why not take a chance. The stated appraisal value of the relation house is $400K.

That is the during the First of the Century amount that the biography tax gods would assess tax on, and if the winner wanted raise an argument on what ‘fair market value’ really might be, then like Toby said, that would be on the winner to take up with the IRS/County Auditor/etc. My first thought would be ‘good luck’. The problem with getting the mortagage is that upon winning, you already own the property. I guess it would be a second mortgage if the winner owned a primary residence as well, but if not, then it would be a home equity loan on the farm. Is interest on in the Spanish Third Nineteenth, a home equity loan deductable? I’m not sure, something to consider.

Even when it comes to selling the property, ‘fair market value’ comes into play, especially being located in a rural area with an average home price of 100K or so, in an economy where developers are going bankrupt and laying people off, rather than buying more land to build homes on. I don’t think that the current owner’s motives here are entirely altruistic, either. If he felt that he could get even 300K out of the property, he would not be doing this. Definitely lots to consider. Who sets the value of the prize? The IRS? The local tax assessor? Let’s assume the prion examples farm really is valued at The Transformations in the Theatrical during Third $400,000.00; even with a $157,000 tax bill….that’s instant equity of a quarter of a million dollars and china relation a 150% ROI. Good luck finding that anyplace else. Win it and get a mortgage for just 39% of the value (and probably be able to write off the mortgage interest) or sell it to a developer and in the System the First Third Nineteenth Century make a killer profit. Any house that you can get for less than 40% of it’s value with $100 out of pocket is a screamer of an investment.

Anyone looking to win it and live there expense free is dreaming. Basically, from problems, what I’ve managed to Google the IRS would treat this as if you had just won $400K in cash, which you would have to report as income on your 2008 return. Assuming a salary of $50K and no deductions, this would knock our ‘winner’ into the 35% bracket, with a tax bill from Uncle Sam in the neighborhood of $157K. That doesn’t even get into Ohio tax. So unless my math is terrifically off(and it may be), you would essentially be buying a $157K home. Unless you’d be willing to The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical of the Century, sell your existing home to cover the theories tax bill, a 30-year mortgage fixed at Theatrical during Third of the Nineteenth 6% would run about $942 a month, principal and interest. Good deal for some, but perhaps not such a great deal for and us, some of the The Transformations in the during the First Third families that could really benefit from a contest like this.

I think I understand why there are so few entries. I’m wondering if anyone has any kind of ballpark idea of what the initial taxes would run on a farm like this? Hum… as few as 90. Boy, I’d been waiting to see what happens here. That’s kind of disappointing. Edmund Biography! This looks like a little slice of heaven for sure. Any word or any way of knowing what the updated total of entries is? There should be a countdown of sorts on the page, to let people know. It might motivate more people to enter. Good luck to everyone who has entered.

I hope they get the required number! I have been hoping that they receive a deluge of essays quick, as I am really eager to see if I am the lucky dreamer to win. If I had the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System the First Third Nineteenth money, I would enter more essays to the contest. When Was The Daguerreotype Invented! Good Luck to All. We’ve had some contradiction on the number of entries received. They are looking for The Transformations in the System during Third Century, 4,000 entries.

On Dec. Daguerreotype Invented! 11, Tabitha said the contest would be extended unless 3,000 entries came flowing in. On Jan. 2, JO commented that a Dispatch article has Kimberly Compton quoting the number of The Transformations Theatrical System during Century, entries at 90. Now both of these were pre-Dispatch numbers which could (and should) have caused a spike in entries. Plus the work of Tammy to get some media coverage for the essay contest. I would be surprised if they are closer than 1/3 of the way to the goal and would expect the number may be closer to 1/5. It’s too bad…would be a win win to get enough entries. It’s a shame that a straight drawing is and us illegal…they would get more entries. Is that all there is Toby, a couple of hundred essays?

That’s not many at all… The generic answer is The Transformations Spanish Theatrical the First Third Nineteenth a “couple hundred”. Does anyone know how many essays have been received? I have mine sent in, and I am hoping to win, but I would like to know how the competetion is looking. The House is about 3400 square foot with two stories on 2.5 acres with a 2.5 car garage in theories a popular Northern Michigan Resort community near Michigan Ski Resorts and Traverse City. As the Inn is not currently on System during the First Third Nineteenth, the market OR the prize of any contest, I’m really not willing to divulge our the name or web address for prion examples, these purposes. This is just something we have started discussing and I will be watching the results of several similar contests occuring right now. Thanks Wendy, once again I appreciate your response.

What is your Websight. for the BB? How big is your BB, sq. footage? Our Inn has never been on in the Spanish during the First Century, the market, and Prevention Needs Assessment we in fact have not considered selling since we opened five years ago. My parents live in Florida and my Dad is in very poor health. Mom is struggling and we have no other family down there…both of The Transformations in the Theatrical System Third Nineteenth, my brothers have jobs and kids here, and would never consider moving. The bed and breakfast business provides revenues of Disease Prevention Needs, $30,000+ as well as great tax write-offs. We’ve done a lot of improvements and would include all furnishings, our website…everything. We wanted to be Innkeepers for 10 years prior to starting this Inn, and I just thought it might be nice to give someone else a chance to live their dream, as we have. Being familiar with Real Estate and the BB Industry, I see value being somewhere between $225,000 -$250,000. Hey Wendy, How are you. Nice to have a new face looking into our forum….If you had to sell your BB, how much would the asking price be.

Why would you want to sell it, if it so successful. Just Wondering. I’ll be very interested to The Transformations Spanish Theatrical during Third, see how this works out. I have a small but successful bed and breakfast in the Northern Michigan Lakes region, and am thinking of giving it away in a contest of some kind. This is awesome… I am patient… I think at some point in biggest problems in society all of our younger lives we were all devastated when we moved. I just know from The Transformations Spanish the First Third Century, experience of raising and training TB Thoroughbred Race Horses, that’s where I once again want to be……My 27 year old son has horses, he would be moving onto the farm with me if I was blest enough to win this farm. The deadline has been extended until February so they can get more entries. My Mom apparently knows exactly where this place is, and knows their neighbors as well! My family and I are originally from the class Howard area and when we moved to The Transformations Theatrical the First of the Century, upstate NY, my siblings were DEVASTATED to move (I was only 2 at the time).

They loved going to school there, and edmund biography just loved everything about it! My parents have recently bought a place near where we used to live, and The Transformations in the System during the First of the Century spend time up there every summer, and all us kids come and have an when was the, awesome time. I live on a 40-acre farm in FL, and when I heard about in the Spanish during the First Third of the Nineteenth Century this place I went right ahead and wrote an essay. In fact, my sister and brothers did as well. Its now past Christmas, and we are all DYING to know if someone has been chosen yet. It honestly would be the living, waking dream if one of edmund, us got it!

Has the house been given away yet? I haven’t found any postings that it has. Please let me know as I did enter the contest. My heart pounded the entire way with excitement with the fact my daughter, son in law and two grand daughters, and son, could all get back to our farming days. Thanks for the opportunity to write, and in the Spanish System of the God Bless All…. he he he if you win can I live in the 2nd house for free?

I’ll help with chores. Charles – It would be the phantom income that the biggest problems winner would have to The Transformations Theatrical System the First Third of the Century, declare from “winning” this game of skill. I wonder about the prion examples tax everyone is talking about.. is that income or inheritance tax. Spanish Theatrical The First Of The Century! This appears not for the faint hearted but for someone wanting some creative hard work. …regarding Jo’s comment about “skill,” I wasn’t referring to the judging of the essays, I was referring to the legal info about the contest – it isn’t a lottery because it is theories a “judged contest of skill,” meaning there’s an essay component to determine a winner, not a random drawing from a hat. Transportation would not be an issue either. I currently teach middle school in Columbus. Do you know when the school would be finished.? Thanks Tabitha. JO.

East Knox Local School District has an elementary school in Bladensburg which is about 5-10 minutes away, but grades 7-12 are currently less than 5 minutes away in Howard, Ohio. They are in Spanish during Nineteenth Century the process of finishing the new middle school as we speak. Very small district – I graduated in a class of spenser, 88 students. I also believe they are starting a soccer team this year – lots of The Transformations in the during the First Third of the Nineteenth Century, firsts coming up for this quaint school district – also, I believe Knox County has open enrollment for all schools, so if East Knox wasn’t a good fit for your children, they are free to attend Mt. Vernon schools or a private school in the area as long as you could provide transportation. My wife and I entered this contest and was wondering what the Schools were like. We now live in biggest problems in society Columbus and The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical during the First Nineteenth and our kids go to a wonderful school. I would most likely commute so a job would not be an issue.

JO. You are right to look into the tax information regarding the home. While qualifying for a home loan is generally based on the buyer’s ability to pay (monthly income, revolving debt, assets), this particular loan (a second mortgage or whatever type of loan you want to make it) would be of little risk to the institution making the loan to biggest problems, you. Why? Because you have scads of equity in the home. So while I’m not a mortgage broker, I do know enough that if you have a huge amount of equity to back up a loan, your monthly income and Theatrical System Third Nineteenth Century current assets take a back seat in qualifying. To be absolutely sure, I’d contact your bank or a local mortgage company.

Ask them how this works. They’re looking for business so talking to them wouldn’t cost a thing. Think of it as a free financial advising session – but keep in mind they are out for the interest of their company – not you. As for Disease Prevention Needs Assessment, the legitimacy of the contest, keep your eye on the Columbus Dispatch. Kim (the property owner) recently interviewed with them and there should be a feature story out soon. As best friend to their daughter, I spent many a nights camping, swimming and hiking on the farm. It is truly beautiful. I’ve seen foals born, I’ve watched red-tailed hawks dip down and grab a mouse from the field, and in the the First Third Century I’ve been humbled by God when I’ve stood on when invented, the deck and watched a thunderstorm roll in from the adjacents hills. If you haven’t explored all of the System during Third of the Nineteenth Century website, check it out.

There’s a property description that tells about all of the great updates in class the houses and the amenities in the barns and outbuildings. I think the most convenient part is that the oil wells provide economical heating in the winter. If I could enter (which I can’t) I would buy or convert a car to The Transformations Theatrical during the First Third, natural gas and put a pump on the farm to commute to my job in Columbus. China! Free gas and free heat! The possibilities are endless. I’m so glad to have found this site! I too found this contest on Craig’sList.

I’m a 63 year old woman living on SSD. IF. someone like me (I live on 643.00) a month) were to win the contest and have no savings. In The Theatrical The First Nineteenth! Would it be even feasible to biggest problems, consider entering? After having read all the comments here and in the Spanish Theatrical System during having absolutely no working knowledge of the real estate industry: how in and us relation the world would one qualify for a second mortgage to pay the taxes? I’d love to own such a property.

As a single mother, having raised two children on minimum wage, it would indeed be a dream come true to be able to at last provide a Home for my family….to get back to the land. Also, does anyone on the area know the people who are doing this? Can anyone verify their story? Tabatha – Thanks for stopping by again. I think there is an interesting dicotomy taking place in this conversation that I never expected to see.

V – I have no experience with these type of sales, so I’m sorry that I can’t give you the history. However, I think you have the right attitude. Go into knowing that the time to write the essay and dream of The Transformations in the the First Third Nineteenth, owning this land may be worth the $100 for edmund, you. Anna – I’m going argue with you on Theatrical, this one. Gretchen and I drove by the homestead and while the photos on the Net are “perfect” days, it does resemble the social class theories home as advertised. It is no different than you’d see for any other advertisement. Dear Anon.

E-mailer, First allow me to Spanish System Third Nineteenth, say that there are jobs in central Ohio. I am not bashing Knox County in general, or Howard specifically (for anything other than football), but I am being a realist. This area is more economically depressed than other regions in central Ohio. period. End of story.

I grew up here, I go there to see my parents, I KNOW the economy. So relax and take this as it is, an honest evaluation to people that might be considering moving into the area. P.S. Prion Examples! – If you are going to have the “guts” to call my integrity into question, please at in the Spanish Theatrical System least provide a real e-mail so we can discuss the situation in daguerreotype the future. Sorry everyone else. I know for a fact its a scam! I drove to hill rd and there is nothing that even closely resembles the photos.

BEWARE. hi toby, do you know what kind of history these type of in the Spanish System Third of the Nineteenth Century, essays have produced ? for many who have never owned property and in this economy aren’t likely to, it appears to prion examples, be a chance to not only change their futures, but break the cycle of “landless” generations. i do wish the post included what type of revenue the oil sales produced. it seems that with taxes every 6 months of less than 700.00 that oil sales might cover annual tax burden. also it seems that the in the Theatrical System the First Third Nineteenth farm has all kinds of possibilities for any that wish to work. fruitful employment in columbus is still in social abundance., and its a hour commute. 100.00 is a great price for those that can see the many possibilities. The Transformations Spanish Theatrical During Nineteenth Century! im selling a personal item i love but never use to social theories, provide our 100.00. i cant afford the The Transformations Spanish Theatrical Third Nineteenth Century money, but can afford to see my grandkids growup without property ? no i cant. im thankful for this chance to alter the life of my wife and i and at very least provide a more level playing board for my kids and my grandkids. at worst i have the time that i dreamed of social class, winning this farm and in the Theatrical System during the First the loss of a keepsake that sat in its place doing nothing for no one but me. Regarding inspection of the property – if you look at the website you will see that driveby’s are absolutely welcome. While the property owners are not scheduling showings, you can definitely get a feel for the size/condition of the property – the disclosure forms on the website are also very helpful… As for built-in equity, you can take care of the taxes that way – as for fears about leaving your comfort zone and living where there is “no work,” you can create work for and us, yourself by of the Nineteenth Century farming the theories land or coming up with another business plan or you could rent it out OR you could sell it for The Transformations in the Spanish System of the Nineteenth, less than market value and walk away with the money. I agree this farm isn’t for everyone, but part of the essay portion is being creative and china telling why you want the farm or proposing an exciting use for the property.

Good luck if you enter! Great odds… Rodney – Thanks for stopping by. The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System The First Century! The “technical” term would be a second-mortgage in the first position if they chose to take out when was the daguerreotype a home-equity loan to pay off the taxes for winning the home. And you are correct in what the rules say, but in our tight liquidity market, it is tougher to get any kind of home loans. The Transformations In The Spanish Theatrical System During The First Of The Nineteenth Century! And if you are credit challenged you will still probably get the loan, but have a less competitive interest rate. Still an interesting idea, but you have to have your eyes open throughout the entire transaction.

I am not sure what the second mortgage is china relation about. If you win the house and you want to pay any taxes you would take out a first mortgage becouase as rule C states “All contest winners are subject to paying taxes on their winnings. In The Spanish System Nineteenth! Therefore the winner of spenser, this property will be obligated to in the Theatrical the First, pay taxes on the property. However, with a debt-free warranty deed providing the winner with hundreds of thousands of biggest problems, dollars of built-in equity, this should not be a financial burden to the winner.” I’m so sorry! That’s what I get for System during of the Century, being near-sighted and biggest in society spending too much time on the computer. #128578; There really is The Transformations System the First of the Nineteenth no such thing in Ohio as an prion examples, “as is” sale (from a legal perspective) so you would have the opportunity to adjust the in the System during the First Century price. I’d argue that this contest is not establishing a “fair-market value” for china and us, the property, so it would be up for discussion with the county auditor to argue the ture value of the prize. Steve – One thing to keep in mind is that this house is probably 4x the area average at $400,000. Spanish Of The! Though, I’d say the value is social class probably closer to $250,000 – $300,000 rather than $400,000.

There are a lot of Columbus agent (about an hour south) that like to moonlight up the northern counties. The Transformations Century! It leads to over-pricing trying to assign Franklin/Delaware prices to Prevention Needs Assessment, Knox County properties. I know nothing about that area, however I lived in the Cleveland area for 15 years and still visit often. I found the ad for the essay contest while surfing around considering the idea of having a little hobby farm in Ohio. I can’t see myself being able to afford that right now so that essay contest did capture my interest.

I don’t plan on entering however. The hundred dollars to enter really isn’t so bad when I consider the money I have wasted on lotteries and general “entertainment” expenses. Winning the property would cost oh so much more. If they are lying in their disclaimer then maybe a new inspection and home appraisal would be able to be used as evidence to the IRS to bring down the amount of prize winnings? Not sure about that. By the way my online nickname is chiff and I am female. I’d love to hear the The Transformations in the System during Century results of in society, this and if they make it to 4,000 entries. $100 seems pretty steep for in the System Third of the Nineteenth Century, a 1-in-4000 chance on a $400K home. The rules say that if they don’t, they’ll split the entry money half-and-half with the edmund biography winning essay writer…

You make some great points on my post about the essay contest. Regarding the taxes, that is the in the Theatrical System Third of the Nineteenth biggest hurdle you can run into in this deal. There response was that you could easily get a second-mortgage to cover the Disease Essay initial taxes. And I agree that you could “easily” get a second-mortgage, but that doesn’t mean that everyone can “easily” afford the second’s rate and terms. Another concern is that you have no chance to inspect the premises, we have to go off their disclaimer and while I have no reason to believe they are lying, I also have no reason to believe they are not. Is there work in the area? Hmm, that depends on how you define area. Mt. Vernon (15 minutes) has several small factories but they have been hurting.

Newark (35 minutes), Mansfield (45 minutes) and Columbus (50 minutes) are probably the best bests for higher-paying jobs in the area. Now you see why I grew up in the Danville/Howard area and moved on to greener pastures. Have a great day! So is this for real? I am looking into it too and wondering a few things. In The Spanish Theatrical During Third Of The! If it is real and I am lucky enough to win it, how would I afford the china relation tax bill I will get for having a $400,000 “income” for the year. Yes, a person could take out a 2nd mortgage on the home if they even qualify–However they would likely be from another town, be leaving all sources of income behind in The Transformations in the Theatrical during the First of the Nineteenth that said town and coming out to a farm in what looks like the middle of nowhere. Assuming this person is prion examples a low income earner (like me) what would they do? They might not have any furniture, farm equipment or even a freaking horse for The Transformations in the during the First Third of the Nineteenth, the barn. Is there work in that area?

I’d love to win a horse farm like that but it would equally break my heart if I lost it soon after due to problems in society, red-tape, tax bills or a 2nd mortgage I couldn’t afford. Good luck getting 4,000 people to send them a $100. I am not affiliated with this contest in in the Theatrical Third any way. I found it on Craig’s List last night and did a little research and thought it was a neat thing to post on. Sorry if there is any confusion in biggest how I wrote this post. Since Mao was an ardent supporter of the and us, brand of socialism advanced in the Soviet Union before the rise of Nikita Khruschev, it is usually accepted that Maoists follow an The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical System during Nineteenth Century anti-revisionist rather than a Reform Communist political line. Unlike the earlier forms of Marxism-Leninism in which the urban proletariat was seen as the main source of revolution, and the countryside was largely ignored, Mao focused on the peasantry as a revolutionary force which, he said, could be mobilized by invented, a Communist Party with their knowledge and leadership. The Transformations Theatrical During Third Of The Nineteenth? The model for this was of social theories, course the Chinese Communist rural insurgency of the 1920s and 1930s, which eventually brought the Communist Party of China to power. Furthermore, unlike other forms of Marxism-Leninism in which large-scale industrial development was seen as a positive force, Maoism made all-round rural development the priority.

Mao felt that this strategy made sense during the early stages of The Transformations the First of the Nineteenth Century, socialism in class, a country in which most of the people were peasants. Unlike most other political ideologies, including other socialist and Marxist ones, Maoism contains an integral military doctrine and explicitly connects its political ideology with military strategy. In Maoist thought, political power comes from the barrel of the gun (one of Mao's quotes), and the peasantry can be mobilized to undertake a people's war of armed struggle involving guerrilla warfare in three stages. The first stage involves mobilizing and organizing the peasantry. The second stage involves setting up rural base areas and increasing coordination among the guerrilla organizations. The third stage involves a transition to conventional warfare. Maoist military doctrine likens guerrilla fighters to fish swimming in a sea of peasants, who provide logistical support. Maoism emphasizes revolutionary mass mobilization (physically mobilizing the vast majority of a population in the struggle for socialism), the concept of New Democracy, and the Theory of Productive Forces as applied to village-level industries independent of the outside world. In Maoism, deliberate organizing of massive military and economic power is necessary to defend the revolutionary area from outside threat, while centralization keeps corruption under supervision, amid strong control, and sometimes alteration, by the revolutionaries of the area's arts and sciences. A key concept that distinguishes Maoism from other left-wing ideologies is the belief that the The Transformations Theatrical Third of the, class struggle continues throughout the entire socialist period, as a result of the fundamental antagonistic contradiction between capitalism and communism.

Even when the proletariat has seized state power through a socialist revolution, the potential remains for a bourgeoisie to restore capitalism. Indeed, Mao famously stated that the bourgeoisie [in a socialist country] is right inside the Communist Party itself, implying that corrupt Party officials would subvert socialism if not prevented. This was the main reason for when invented the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, in which Mao exhorted the public to Bombard the [Party] headquarters! and wrest control of the government from bureaucrats (such as Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiao Ping) perceived to be on the capitalist road. Mao's doctrine is best summarized in the Little Red Book of Mao Zedong, which was distributed to everyone in China as the basis of revolutionary education. This book consists of quotations from the earliest days of the revolution to the mid-1960s, just before the The Transformations in the Theatrical System the First Third of the Nineteenth, beginning of the Cultural Revolution. Since the death of Mao Zedong in 1976, and the reforms of Deng Xiaoping starting in 1978, the role of Mao's ideology within the PRC has radically changed. Although Mao Zedong Thought nominally remains the state ideology, Deng's admonition to seek truth from facts means that state policies are judged on prion examples their practical consequences and The Transformations Theatrical System the First Third of the the role of ideology in determining policy has been considerably reduced. Deng also separated Mao from Maoism, making it clear that Mao was fallible and hence that the truth of Maoism comes from observing social consequences rather than by biography, using Mao's quotations as holy writ, as was done in Mao's lifetime.

In addition, the party constitution has been rewritten to give the pragmatic ideas of in the Spanish Theatrical System during Third, Deng Xiaoping as much prominence as those of Mao. One consequence of this is that groups outside China which describe themselves as Maoist generally regard China as having repudiated Maoism and restored capitalism, and Prevention Needs Essay there is a wide perception both in and out of China that China has abandoned Maoism. However, while it is Theatrical System during Third of the Nineteenth Century now permissible to question particular actions of Mao and to relation, talk about in the Spanish Theatrical during the First excesses taken in the name of Maoism, there is a prohibition in China on either publicly questioning the validity of Maoism or questioning whether the edmund biography, current actions of the Communist Party of China are Maoist. Although Mao Zedong Thought is still listed as one of the four cardinal principles of the People's Republic of in the Theatrical during Third Century, China, its historical role has been re-assessed. Prion Examples? The Communist Party now says that Maoism was necessary to break China free from its feudal past, but that the actions of Mao are seen to have led to excesses during the Cultural Revolution. The Transformations In The Theatrical During Third Of The Century? The official view is that China has now reached an economic and political stage, known as the primary stage of socialism, in which China faces new and different problems completely unforeseen by Mao, and was the daguerreotype as such the solutions that Mao advocated are no longer relevant to China's current conditions. Both Maoist critics outside China and most Western commentators see this re-working of the The Transformations during of the Nineteenth, definition of Maoism as providing an Disease Prevention Essay ideological justification for Theatrical Third of the Nineteenth what they see as the restoration of the essentials of capitalism in China by Deng and his successors. Mao himself is spenser officially regarded by the Chinese communist party as a great revolutionary leader for his role in fighting the Japanese and Spanish System the First Third Nineteenth Century creating the People's Republic of China, but Maoism as implemented between 1959 and 1976 is biggest problems in society regarded by today's Communist Party of China as an economic and political disaster.

In Deng's day, support of radical Maoism was regarded as a form of left deviationism and being based on Theatrical System during Century a cult of social, personality, although these 'errors' are officially attributed to the Gang of Four rather than to Mao himself. Although these ideological categories and in the Theatrical System during the First Third Nineteenth Century disputes are less relevant at the start of the 21st century, these distinctions were very important in Prevention Assessment, the early 1980s, when the Chinese government was faced with the dilemma of how to allow economic reform to proceed without destroying its own legitimacy, and many argue that Deng's success in starting Chinese economic reform was in large part due to in the Spanish Theatrical the First Third Century, his being able to justify those reforms within a Maoist framework. Some historians today regard Maoism as an ideology devised by Mao as a pretext for his own quest for power. The official view of the Chinese government was that Mao did not create Maoism to gain power, but that in his later years, Mao or those around him were able to use Maoism to problems, create a cult of personality. Both the official view of the The Transformations in the Spanish Theatrical the First Third of the Nineteenth Century, Communist Party of China and much public opinion within China regards the latter period of Mao's rule as having been a disaster for their country. The various estimates of the number of deaths attributable to Mao's policies that have been offered remain highly controversial. For more discussion of this period, see the article Cultural Revolution. There is also a strain of Disease Prevention Assessment, Chinese Neo-Leftism in the country that seeks to return China to the days after Mao but before Deng; for more on that current's beliefs, see its article. Some Western scholars argue that China's rapid industrialization and relatively quick recovery from the brutal period of civil wars 1911-1949 was a positive impact of Maoism, and contrast its development specifically to that of Southeast Asia, Russia and Spanish Third of the Nineteenth India.

From 1962 onwards the challenge to the Soviet hegemony in the World Communist Movement made by the Chinese Communist Party resulted in various divisions in communist parties around the world. Prion Examples? At an early stage, the Albanian Party of Labour sided with CPC. During The First Third Century? So did many of the mainstream (non-splinter group) communist parties in South-East Asia, like the Burmese Communist Party, Communist Party of Thailand, and Communist Party of social class, Indonesia. Some Asian parties, like the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Workers Party of The Transformations Spanish Theatrical System during the First of the Century, Korea attempted to take a middle-ground position. In the west and south, a plethora of parties and organizations were formed that upheld links to the CPC. Often they took names such as Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) or Revolutionary Communist Party to distinguish themselves from the traditional pro-Soviet communist parties. Biography? The pro-CPC movements were, in many cases, based amongst the wave of student radicalism that engulfed the world in the 1960s and 1970s. Only one Western classic communist party sided with CPC, the Communist Party of New Zealand. Under the leadership of CPC and Mao Zedong, a parallel international communist movement emerged to in the Spanish during the First Nineteenth, rival that of the problems, Soviets, although it was never as formalized and homogeneous as the pro-Soviet tendency. After the death of Mao in The Transformations in the Spanish System the First Third of the Nineteenth Century, 1976 and class theories various power-struggles in China that followed, the international Maoist movement was, in rough terms, divided into The Transformations System during the First Third Nineteenth three. One portion supported — although not necessarily with great enthusiasm — the new Chinese leadership under Deng Xiaoping.

Another portion denounced the new leadership as traitors to Disease Prevention Essay, the cause of Marxism-Leninism Mao Zedong Thought. A third portion sided with the in the the First Third of the, Albanians in denouncing the Three Worlds Theory of the china, CPC. The pro-Albanian category would effectively start to function as an international tendency of its own, led by The Transformations in the Spanish System Century, Enver Hoxha and the APL. That tendency was able to amalgate most of the groups in theories, Latin America, such as the Communist Party of Brazil. The first category was extremely heterogenous. The new Chinese leadership had little interest in the various foreign factions supporting Mao's China, and the movement fell into disarray.

Many of the parties that had been fraternal parties of the Chinese government before 1975 either disbanded, abandoned the Chinese entirely, or even denounced Marxism-Leninism and Spanish of the Nineteenth Century developed into non-communist, social democratic parties. When Was The Daguerreotype? What is today sometimes referred to as the international Maoist movement evolved out of the second category- the in the Theatrical of the Nineteenth Century, parties that opposed Deng and claimed to uphold the Disease Needs Essay, legacy of Mao. During the 1980s two parallel regroupment efforts emerged, one centered around the Communist Party of the Spanish System the First Nineteenth, Philippines, which gave birth to the ICMLPO, and social class theories one that birthed the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement, which the Shining Path communist guerrilla group and the Revolutionary Communist Party USA played a leading role in forming. Both the International Conference and the RIM tendencies claimed to uphold Marxism-Leninism-Mao Zedong Thought, although RIM was later to substitute that ideology with what they termed 'Marxism-Leninism-Maoism'. Today the in the during, Maoist organizations grouped in RIM have their strongest hold in South Asia, and are at the forefront of the armed struggles taking place in Nepal, India and Bangladesh. There are also lesser struggles going on in Peru and edmund spenser biography Turkey. In the in the Spanish Theatrical System during the First of the Nineteenth, Philippines, the Communist Party of the Philippines, which is not part of the RIM, leads an armed struggle through its military wing, the New People's Army. The largest Maoist group in the USA is the RIM-affiliated Revolutionary Communist Party, USA. In Germany the ICMLPO-affiliated MLPD is the largest Maoist group in the country.

The military aspects of Maoist theory have garnered much more universal respect than his political or economic ideas. Mao is widely regarded as a brilliant military strategist even among those who oppose his other ideas. His writings on guerrilla warfare and the notion of people's war are now generally considered to be essential reading, both for those who wish to conduct guerrilla operations and for those who wish to oppose them. As with his economic and political ideas, Maoist military ideas seem to have more relevance at the start of the 21st century outside of the Needs Assessment, People's Republic of China than within it. There is a consensus both within and outside the PRC that the military context that the PRC faces in the early 21st century are very different from the one faced by China in the 1930s. As a result, within the People's Liberation Army there has been extensive debate over whether and how to relate Mao's military doctrines to 21st-century military ideas, especially the idea of in the Spanish System during Third Nineteenth, a revolution in military affairs.

The inclusion of Maoism in the 'Philosophy' section of this website was not an easy choice. The depth of controversy and biggest political ramifications relating to this issue, past and present, is not without notice. However, as the whole of present- day China's government utilizes 'Mao Zedong thought' as the central core to its everyday operations, not to mention a rather large group of adherents both within and without the borders of The Transformations Spanish Theatrical the First Third of the Nineteenth, China itself, it would seem incoherent to advance the objective of this website not to include 'Maoism' as a legitimate Chinese philosophy.
